In psychology, there are usually 8 main types that create the foundation of psychology.
This one studies how the mind processes information
Focus: Thinking, learning, problem solving/decision making and memory.
Common questions they answer:
Why do people forget things?
How do biases affect decisions?
2. Development Psychology
Studies how people change throughout life
Focus: Development, Identity formation, Social/cognitive development and aging.
Common questions they answer:
How does aging affect memory and emotions?
How do children develop language?
Studies how other people influence thoughts and behavior
Focus: Social pressure, social identity, group behavior and persuasion.
Common questions they answer:
Why do people follow crowds?
Studies how biology affects behavior
Focus: Hormones, genetics, Brain structure and neurotransmitters.
Common questions they answer:
Which brain areas control emotions?
Why do brain injuries charge personality?
Studies behavior and how it is learned
Focus: Conditioning, rewards, habits and learning through experience.

6. Personality psychology
Studies stable patterns in how people think, feel and behave.
Focus: Personality traits, temperament, identity and character differences.
Common questions they answer:
Can personality be changed?
Studies mental disorders and psychological difficulties.
Focus: Anxiety disorders, Depression, mental disorders and personality disorders.

What causes mental illnesses?
8. Research methods & statistics
Students learn how to answer those questions.
Focus: Experiments, collecting data, statistic/ study analyse and how to avoid bias.

Is a result statistically significant?
