PROMPT : Produce a book cover design for a college Art Journal.
Here are some of my inspirational book covers I’ve seen for my research on designing the Myriad 2019 cover.
I really like the ones that play with typography and imagery, as seen in the book titled “Moonshine” where one letter “o” was the moon, and casting light onto the house.
I also like elements that play a dual purpose, such as the steam from the cup acting as, of course, steam, but also as a convenient backdrop for the title. I also like the cover for “Catcher in the Rye” where it is both a cliffside but also buildings.
Otherwise, I love the simplicity of “Exile and the Kingdom” as I found it to be attention grabbing, despite only being black and white. That cut off is both jarring yet somehow oddly fitting, even though I don’t know what the book is about. Yet at the same time, I feel that it is probably also indicative of the book’s plot, so it also makes me feel as if I’m being prepped and forewarned about its contents.
DISCLAIMER: None of the artworks in this particular post is mine. These are simply part of my research, to collect designs that inspired me.
