SOS 3 > Where We Will Be

On the 6th of June SOS and MCA will be in Treia at the Soft Economy Festival, organized by Symbola. During the event  “rigenerazione territoriale e ricostruzione” (territorial regeneration and reconstruction) at the Municipal Theatre, the students of the Camerino team will present the strategic plan for Camerino Reconstruction. It will be an opportunity to discuss with influential and important people.

(NOT TO MENTION MAH JONG TILES, ANCIENT GREEK NUMBERS, BRAILLE PATTERNS, BYZANTINE MUSICAL NOTATION, AND ALCHEMICAL SYMBOLS???)

Green Italia, il partito degli ecologisti scomparsi (dalla politica)

Sabato 1 marzo si è tenuta a Roma l'assemblea fondativa di Green Italia. Un movimento, spiegano i promotori, per «mettere l'ecologia nel cuore della politica, offrire agli italiani un'altra scelta da quelle oggi disponibili: la scelta di un progetto politico fondato sull'idea di un "green new deal" per l'Italia». Tra i promotori Roberto Della Seta e Francesco Ferrante (già parlamentari del Pd), la presidente dei Verdi europei Monica Frassoni, Rossella Muroni e Edoardo Zanchini, direttrice e vicepresidente di Legambiente, imprenditori della "green economy" come Ilaria Catastini , esponenti politici provenienti dalla destra come Fabio Granata, Fabio Renzi, segretario generale della Fondazione Symbola, il presidente dei Verdi italiani Angelo Bonelli, Anna Donati già parlamentare verde e dirigente del Wwf, Francesco Fiore tra gli animatori del progetto civico Padova 20/20, Giuseppe Gamba presidente di Azzero CO2. Dunque, large intese, tra destra e sinistra, ma anche tra ambientalismo istituzionalizzato e imprese. Rileggendo l'elenco dei presenti e i loro rispettivi incarichi, ricoperti fino ad oggi, si ha netta "sensazione" di assistere ad una nuova "fioritura" di Legambiente, con qualche innesto ibrido. Lascio ogni altra considerazione al prossimo post, per decantare il ragionamento, ma rilancio un passo dell'editoriale di Aldo Cazzullo del 10 gennaio 2013 dal titolo La scomparsa degli ecologisti (un commiato all'ombra del governo Monti).  "La questione non è tanto che gli ambientalisti abbiano fallito nel formare il loro partitino, in aggiunta alle varie sigle postcomuniste e postfasciste che ci concederemo alle prossime elezioni - scrive Cazzullo - . La questione è che non sono riusciti a ibridare i partiti veri. A diffondere le loro culture. A imporre un tema che attraversa tutti i campi della nostra vita quotidiana e della nostra attività, dalle politiche industriali alla sicurezza sul lavoro, dalla salute al turismo (possibile motore della ripresa italiana di cui anche si parla poco). Mentre ai cittadini il tema interessa moltissimo; infatti quando possono occuparsene lo fanno in massa e con determinazione, sia pure nella forma tranchante dei referendum, che riconduce temi complessi come la ricerca sul nucleare e le risorse naturali alla semplificazione talora eccessiva di un sì e di un no. Una volta ogni dieci anni gli elettori battono un colpo; poi la classe politica lascia ricadere lentamente le polveri. Anche così si amplia il distacco tra il Palazzo e il Paese". Al prossimo post. Missing Unicode Fonts & Emoticons?

If you can see Mr. smiley face with sunglasses up there, then feel free to ignore this post.

However, if all you see is a box with a couple of random letters and numbers in it, and you're wondering "I keep seeing these boxes.. what are they and why do they appear?!" then you've come to the right place.

Simply put, users of some mobile devices and Windows 7/8 have pre-packaged fonts on their systems that allow them to see emoticons using the Unicode format. However, people who are still using older devices or operating systems like Windows XP may have issues seeing these Emoticons because their system wasn't initially packaged with a specific set of fonts that allow the computer to display them.

If you're one of those people who can't see the emoticons, and you think you're missing out on all that fun while your friends are busy exchanging messages with secret emoticons when all you see are boxes, then you may want to install a font that CAN display them. It's as simple as downloading any free, unlicensed font that adds support to display emoticons.

For example, Symbola is a font which supports 100% (76 out of 76) of the characters in the Unicode Emoticons Block. You can download the font here by clicking on the link for Symbola on the right-hand side. After that, it's as easy as installing the font (instructions) to see the results. For Windows XP users, you can simply drag the font file to the C:\WINDOWS\Fonts folder and it will automatically install.

If you've done everything correctly, you should see the smiley face emoticon below and be well on your way with the rest of your day. :D
