The usual suspects The OG 13 getting into some shenanigans/being general menaces. Inspired by an exhibit I saw at the Museum of the American Revolution in Philadelphia, which in turn is based off this historical account of a “brawl at Harvard Yard,” when newly-recruited soldiers from various parts of the colonies got into a snowball fight-turned brawl (subsequently broken up by George Washington, as the story goes). The exhibit caption says: “in the first American army, troops from New England sometimes fought alongside soldiers recruited from the Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Virginia mountains. At other times, these troops fought each other.”
As soon as I saw this exhibit and the hilarious scene it depicts I knew I had to make it the OG13. In the early years of the Revolution the hardest thing (even moreso than actually fighting the British) was trying to get the colonies to get along with each other…
I feel like Connie’s reaction of the Boston massacre would be a little surprised but he’d be chill about it.
In Table History: French Onion Taxes, Connecticut casually gets a text from Mass about the massacre. He shows slight worry but it’s basically just casual mentioning.
Since I’m crazy I’m gonna take this as intentional, so I’m just gonna guess that Mass went to Connecticut first after the massacre was just like ‘hey Conn, help me create some propaganda about this’, and Connecticut was like ‘sure, why not’
Conclusion. One; they’re friends at least. And two; Connie’s chill about the Boston Massacre.
Thanks for listening to my random ass idea/headcanon thing :)
the table history video's imply that before Gov/DC was around Virginia was in charge (a seat probably attained just by being the oldest) but the exasperation in those video's makes me think of Gov being like 2 days old and getting everything shoved on him bc Ginny is going to kill someone (*cough* Mass & RI *cough*) if someone else doesn't take over.
also Delaware starting to pull his "I'm first!" spiel and Virginia is just "you wanna be first :) go ahead :) be my guest :) as long as i am in a spot that makes sure I'm never in charge again I'm happy :)"
Based on a true story (a.k.a. the time Arizona created a “Navy” to fight California over water rights), with some creative liberties.
Some quotes from the articles linked above:
In 1922, six of seven states signed the Colorado River Compact. Upset with its allotment, Arizona refused to sign. So when Parker Dam construction began, Arizona sought to block the project.
On Nov. 10, 1934, Arizona Gov. Benjamin Moeur declared martial law and dispatched 100 National Guard troops from the 158th Infantry Regiment, according to historical accounts.
He also ordered some of the troops to board boats. And so was born the “Arizona Navy.”The boats were sent to inspect work that had progressed. Historical accounts report that the boats became tangled in cables from the dam’s construction.
The National Guardsmen were rescued — to Arizona’s great humiliation, according to the AP account — by Californians working on the dam.
And then the two states battled in out in court…a total of 9 times (so far…)
The minute I first learned about this incident I knew I had to draw it WTTT-style. It’s just so funny (to me, a nerd).
Plain text version:
Page 1:
AZ, *holding a pamphlet that reads “Colorado River Water Rights”*: “Hey California, what the fuck is this?”
*Arizona turns to a page that lists out the percent of water each state gets under the agreements. CA is 58%, AZ is 37% and NV is 4%.*
AZ: “Why do I get so much less than you? It’s not fair!”
CA: “Oh, I’m sorry…🙄Is the DESERT complaining about not having WATER? Maybe when you build some REAL cities, then I might share a bit of water from my new dam!”
AZ: *tearing up the contract* I’m MORE than “just” a desert! THIS is what I think of your “water rights”! FUCK U.”
Later:
AZ: *On the Phone*
“Hello? National Guard? Yeah…I need the BIGGEST boat you have!
*beat*
“YES…This is Arizona…yes…I did say a boat!”
*Nevada, in the corner:*
“Um…Is anyone gonna talk about how I only get 4%? …No?”
Page 2:
*Arizona, laughing maniacally*
AZ: “Suck it, California!! The Arizona Navy is here!!!”
Page 3:
*Arizona, on a boat in the middle of the lake*
AZ: “Stop this DAMN damn (or else)! Stop stealing my water!”
*Arizona’s boat crashes against a rock*
AZ: “Aahhh!”
“HELP! I can’t swim!”
CA (offscreen): “Dude…the water’s like, 3 feet deep. Just stand up!”
AZ: “…oh.”
CA: “Look, you didn’t have to embarrass yourself like that. We can just talk it out, geez.”
