WEEK 5: STUDIO 1 LECTURE

In this week’s lecture Andy discussed ‘food as a symbol’. He commented that “you choose the food to put in your paintings based on symbology”. In the 60′s it was considered a ‘novelty’ to read label descriptions within art; Andy Warhol defied this concept in his Campbell’s Soup painting. He took a ‘basic food staple’ and created it into art. I love that Andy was able to juxtapose that there is just as much beauty and importance in an ordinary soup can as there is in a table full of fruit.

COMMUNICATION DESIGN STUDIES: WEEK 11

WEEK 11 LECTURE: I also really enjoyed listening to Bronwyn’s talk about the Belonging Project. It was really interesting hearing about something that started within our school of media and communication. Andy’s quote at the end of our lecture that “some of the most influential people are the least spoken” perfectly sums up Bronwyn’s dedication and passion for this project.

COMM DESIGN STUDIES: WEEK 11 

Inspiration for Ask Me Anything. 

Based off the brand and designer that I interviewed for the project I’ve decided to produce a ‘travel diary’ for my questions. It allows me to accentuate the background behind my designers creations, her journey behind design and her moments of inspiration.

WEEK 12: MINI PROTO-TYPE OF ‘ASK ME ANYTHING’

After I scanned each of the individual pages, I created a fold out map/travel diary on illustrator. I chose the map of Marrakesh as thats been the entire inspiration for my travel diary as all the designers bags are created there. I’m contemplating changing the layout slightly and just having one image of the map on the front, so that it unfolds from the top rather than the middle.

COMM DESIGN STUDIES: WEEK 10

László Moholy-Nagy was very intrested in how the elements space, time and light all worked together. This interest of his has sparked an idea for the ‘ask me anything’ project. Laszlo’s collage’s and compositions are very raw and structured and I’d like to represent the ‘rawness’ aspect of his work into mine. I plan to do this by creating a travel/drawing diary to present my ‘ask me anything’ project. As my designer’s work is created in Morocco I’d like to replicate the feelings, smells, sights and cultures into a ‘diary.’

COMM DESIGN STUDIES: WEEK 9 

In this weeks lecture we were introduced into some of the most influential designers that studies at the Bauhaus design school in Weimar, Germany. 

The work of Joost Schmidt is heavily inspiring as he is able to create amazing movement and depth into his designs. The detailing, especially in the bottom right image through the room reflection in the metal ball is an example of his exceptional talent. He was able to create such innovative and modern designs for his time by simply paying attention to perspective.
