Okay fin rot or tail biting? im getting mixed signals from googling. Im worried. I ordered fin rot meds just in case.
5-11-2018 | Month 3 So after some small water changes over a few days and testing the decor for sharpness . . . . . . Firecracker's tail got shorter again. I'm thinking it's probably fin biting at this point, so I'm going to pick up some Indian Almond leaves and some more hiding spots today to try and help.
I can home from work today and Saphris has completely shredded his fins..None of his decorations have changed so I don’t know what happened. I think he is tail biting again.
Please help my Betta!
I have had my betta Chadwick for almost two months now and he's living comfortably in a 5G tank which he has all to himself. The temperature has been a constant 78 degrees Fahrenheit and the water parameters are fine, nothing really out of the ordinary...until later this evening. I left the house for a couple of hours and when I came back, he looked like this:
A huge chunk of his tail went missing and not to mention, he keeps on flaring. I ruled out him being snagged in the decor since he has been in and out just fine. The plants has been in the tank ever since I first placed him in and he is as active as can be. I know that tail biting is often unexplainable and that it is not to be unexpected with long tailed bettas but I couldn't help but wonder if he's in pain...and to those who has experienced their betta's biting their tails, what do you suggest to help speed up the healing process?? Will it even grow back to what it used to look like?? This is what he looked like this morning:
(Please forgive the algae) And any tips as to how to prevent such a thing from happening again would be greatly appreciated 🐠
Edit: checked on him again this morning. He's already lost half of his tail😞
PS: my phone camera isn't the best so picture looks a bit iffy.
I found out what the bugs in Brody's tank were and decided the best action was a deep clean to get rid of the bugs/larvae. I'm pretty sure they are a form of nematodes? So I'm going to keep medicating his food. But lord christ he won't stop biting his tail!! He's never handled stress or water changes well so I tend to do them as calmly as I can, but this time I had to take him out and keep him in a smaller tank while I cleaned everything. I finally got him acclimated and back in his tank and his tail is shredded. And I can see him doing it more! He spins around and nips it off. I have Seachem stress guard but it hasn't seemed to help. Last time he bit his tail it never grew back. I'm so worried for him :/ I have the tank light off and plenty of almond leaves for him. If anyone has any advice that would be nice on how to heal his fins, I was thinking of adding some aquarium salt to help prevent infection?
triton has finally stopped tail biting! :3
he started tail biting around the time i finished the last semester of school/moved back to el paso and i haven’t been able to figure out why! when i brought him home he only had half a tail (not like, a short tail, i mean literally just the bottom half of his tail lol) and he grew a ton of it back!! so i was really disappointed that he had started biting it again :( I moved decor around, I bought more plants, i got him a betta leaf...i finally thought that maybe it was temp fluctuations since the apartment gets colder at night since we sleep with the a/c on...i had ordered new heaters finally (but i’m me so i ordered them to the wrong address -__-...they took a detour they’ll be here in the next week or so, hopefully) and the same day i went to pick up some anacharis...i had planned to properly stick it in the substrate but was going out of town for a few days so i just unbunbled them and let them float on top...i came back AND HE WAS LOVING IT! so I left it that way and he loves to lay in his anacharis jungle bed and swim in it and he’s got some regrowth on his tail now! :) i’ll have to post pics later tho :D (lost...my phone...it happens too often) tl;dr i added a heck ton of floating anacharis and he’s got a TON of resting places now and he’s stopped tail biting and he’s started to regrow his fins finally! :DD pics later when i find my phone~
bettablr i need some help
my beautiful boy Aries has started tail biting. I woke up this morning and there was just a good chink of his tail missing. There is absolutely nothing in his tank that he could have hurt himself like this on, he even has a sponge filter. Theres no signs of rot or infection yet which is good, so I’m planning on doing a water change and double dosing stresscoat. What can I do to prevent or manage this? He lives in a heated filtered 5 gallon with lots of live plants and hides and good water quality so I dont think stress is the cause. I could try rearranging his tank in case it might be boredom? I think he is a halfmoon(didnt know that when i bought him) and his tail grew a lot bigger than i expected. If hes just biting himself bc of the weight of it what do i do???
