Concerning the Episode 18: Beacon, from the “Can you do a back flip” scene.
Yuma Uchida: I was surprised at Tsukasa's high potential to react immediately. Also, in this scene Yodaka spoke more than in any previous one. I think it's because he had various feelings toward Tsukasa. (Boldfaced and italics mine)
Takeo Ootsuka: The words Yodaka utters carry an atmosphere that seems to dominate the space, so while being swallowed by that, it was also a scene where Tsukasa once again became aware of his own talent and potential. It felt as if he were skating into Yodaka’s palm.
Uchida: He's really just saying something obvious. But when it's said by someone who is a 'medalist,' the weight of it changes. Yodaka is not someone who knows how to wrap words in euphemism, so it feels like Tsukasa reacted to that.
Ootsuka: in some cases Tsukasa's body moves before he has time to think.
Uchida: I see. Maybe his straightforwardness came through.
Ootsuka: This scene, and actually all the other scenes too, I always keep in mind, as I play Tsukasa, to “give a fresh reaction to what is happening at that moment.” If you know too much of the story ahead of time, your acting can become predictable and contrived, so I try to express what Tsukasa is facing right now.
About Yodaka letting out a laugh… and the directions given to the actors
Uchida: I think it might have been the only moment when we could feel Yodaka’s passion. It may still be like a small spark, but I felt there was something within Yodaka.
Ootsuka: Tsukasa has feelings about his own circumstances and tends to compare himself to Yodaka, but after seeing Yodaka skate live for the first time, he clearly recognizes the difference between them and gains the resolve that he is now living as Inori's coach. We were directed to make that feeling come through strongly in this exchange.
Uchida: Takeo-san described it as “Yodaka's words stab like a knife,” but the person himself is just saying what he considers obvious. It's just that when those words come from someone called a 'medalist,' their weight changes. The words stab so sharply perhaps because Tsukasa feels the magnitude of the existence that is Jun Yodaka.
Did Tsukasa’s perception on Jun change?
Ootsuka: There's... not much that's changed from my first impression of Yodaka (laughs).
Uchida: (laughs)

In Episode 18, a nighttime skating scene featuring Tsukasa, Yodaka, and Schinichiro was depicted—what were the important points and particulars you focused on in the shooting and post-processing?
In the scene where Yodaka and Tsukasa's talents intertwine, we wanted to convey on the filming side a contrasting, “breathtaking” sensation, so we expressed Yodaka’s sharp gaze, Tsukasa's headlong effort, and the talent Tsukasa himself understands each with a different approach in cinematography. And in the sequence in which Tsukasa harbors various feelings for Yodaka, so that each feeling and Yodaka’s performance could also be conveyed through the filming, we broke the scene down finely as a mode of expression, assigned shooting staff, and made it possible for the filming team to enjoy and amplify what they could do to bring out the charms of both Yodaka and Tsukasa.
