I was so elated to see the news that the UK show Hollyoaks has cast an autistic actor, Talia Grant, to play an autistic character, and has worked with both the actor (@hxpefully) and the National Autistic Society to create the character. As an autistic person myself, I can’t tell you how important this is and how much hope it gives me. The autistic community - especially autistic people of color - desperately need better positive representation in the media, and the fact that all the actors Hollyoaks auditioned for this role were autistic tells me they are working hard to get this right.
