HELLO! Yes.
(long post)
4. what do you think will happen if one day it turns out that the aptx antidote haibara developed no longer works for conan?
I've actually thought about this multiple times, and I think it wouldn't be as easy as either accepting it OR fighting it. Shinichi is a smart guy, he knows deep down that only Shiho can create an antidote, and if she can't do it, no one can. And it's a massive plot point that Shinichi can't take the trial antidote multiple times because he will develop an immunity to it.
In my opinion, when he realizes he is the only one the antidote doesn't work on, he would be extremely bitter about it. Assuming this antidote also works on Mary, Shinichi would have to go through all five stages of grief because he is now, in a way, dead. He's mourning both his identity and his entire drive to live. Because this isn't just a matter of his physical body, but also his drive/will to live. Shinichi is a goal-oriented man, if he sets his mind on a problem, he becomes obsessed with solving it, we see this time and again with how he grows fixated on a case and neglects everything and everyone else, and his body shrinking is now this massive, unsolvable problem. No matter how smart he is, how strong he is, or how many resources and support he has, the problem he needs to solve the most is now unsolvable.
He would get bitter because the solution is… right there. The antidote is there, and yet he is the only one rejected by it. What is basically a medical tragedy now feels like a personal attack. Because this is not for any lack of trying on his part, he feels cheated. This is unfair.
So yes, I think he would feel bitter. He would be stuck in grief without being able to move past it, and maybe even become depressed because of it. I don't believe he will ever get any psychological help, just based on the way he's written, so I think he will just hide deep inside himself and go through the motions. He might hate being called by his dead name while resenting his new one. He'll probably grow into a cynical adult over time, maybe even more cold-hearted than he already is. But who knows, a miracle can always happen, I suppose.
Anyway, I've written multiple fics and snippets regarding this outcome too, and I will probably write more in the future aha.
8. akai has been described as "gin on the good guys side sometimes", if you were to craft an AU where he is a loyal organization member, what would be the traits that distinguish him from gin?
I think what REALLY distinguishes him from Gin is his temper as well as his decision making process. Akai is almost impossible to read, whereas Gin is ironically more honest because he’s a pure sadist.
See, this is based on personal observation, but what's funny about Akai is that he never really raises his voice? Even in M24, where he is supposed to be yelling through his earpiece, his tone only rises the slightest bit. So, whatever he is feeling, you can never get an easy read on him, at least not by his tone or expression alone.
Gin is a sadist, full stop. He loves inflicting pain, and a huge chunk of his job involves doing just that. His emotions colour his every decision; they don't control him, and he IS cool under pressure, but the end goal of most of what he does is cruelty. He's way smarter than the other members, seeing how easily and relentlessly he tracked down both Conan and Camel, but his method of execution is… let's say, self-indulgent. That man set a whole island on fire just to hunt Camel and then decided to use a GRENADE to double-tap? A GRENADE!?
Because of that, I think what would truly distinguish Rye from Gin is their decision-making process. Rye is not a good person, and he wouldn't be a better person, but he would be the more efficient one. He wouldn't waste time trying to intimidate all his subordinates (like what Gin does to Kir constantly) or decide to blow up a damn Ferris wheel just to kill a few witnesses. He'd be more efficient, more focused, and therefore, more ‘fair’ and trustworthy.
If RUM wanted something done fast and easy, he'd probably pick Rye over Gin. Whatever decision Rye makes, it would be based on efficiency; whether it requires death or torture, he'll do it. Like, yes, he'll break every bone in someone's body because he feels like it, but you won't have to question WHY he does it, you'd know he's doing it for a reason and not just to play with his food.
So, while both of them can be cruel, ultimately Gin is a sadist, whereas Rye is a pragmatist, so you can reason with him, making him uh, more approachable, and digestible. That’s what sets them apart.
hi Lory!! i want to ask do you have any furukaza headcanons and what are your favorite canon moments of them 👀
HIII VERA!! oh im absolutely delighted to receive an ask about my loves so thank you so much!! though I don't know where to begin with answering this to be honest TT hmmm lets see...
the thing about furukaza is that it feels an awful lot like a fanfic already, they constantly make me go "??how are they allowed to do this??" so I find no real need to headcanon much when the source material + marketing team already love to keep us winning, to the point it becomes too much for my heart to bear at times
• most of my frkz "headcanons" are sort of extended scenarios rooted in canon facts/interactions, with not much creativity on my end to be frank🫡 here are some!:
- I love to believe that furuya tends to come up with ways to stay informed about any possible changes in kazami's love life, nonchalantly of course, just to make sure he's still prioritizing their job therefore prioritizing furuya🫣 (I have a comic wip for this very scenario that I hope I'll get to finish soon!)
- preparing bentous for kazami started as a concerned gesture by furuya, but soon became a must to keep a close eye on kazami's diet and ensuring he stays in top shape, all while furuya still claims it's merely excess food he's sharing (made a silly post about this ages ago). I could even see furuya being interested in kazami's blood test results to assess exactly what his diet is lacking and prepare his meals accordingly. tell me he wouldn't be a control freak like that🧐
- though quite aware of furuya's different faces and lying skills, kazami never quite gets used to witnessing amuro tooru's charm in person. it freaks him out.
- whenever at furuya's place, kazami obsesses with being the "ideal guest" which sometimes leads him to assuming some over the top likes and dislikes of furuya's, and some none-existing lines that he so fears crossing. he'll be wondering things like "does furuya-san prefer to arrange his cutlery by color? or size maybe?" and keeping notes such as "furuya-san prefers to keep the TV volume on 35" or "do not use the striped blue kitchen towel on the coffee table". furuya might be offended by this because he doesn't take himself for such a particular person🧐 (also a comic wip!)
(let me take this chance to bring up the fact that kazami does actually keep track of furuya's preferences in a notebook, as evidenced by ch.32 in ZTT. who's to say he wouldn't keep it on his person at all times in case of big breakthroughs or emergencies even?🥰)
• as for my favorite canon moments, yes I am greedy and do consider the movies and zero's tea time canon if it isn't clear already:
- I am simply weak for furukaza sharing meals together🫠 they do so a number of times in ZTT and it always warms my heart every time :'DD
- m22 is so significant for them and I keep noticing new things everytime I rewatch!! I am just unwell about kazami's faithfulness to furuya even when he was under the impression that furuya had lead an innocent man to take his own life, OH and him reiterating "you're a scary man" after seeing that man alive with his own eyes??? ohhh my gosh jfkfdhdhhdjdd. just. wow wow. I should really make a longer post about this I have.. quite a bit to say👀
- if it were up to me to give someone a first impression of frkz, I'd make them watch m25🫡 the two of them putting their lives at risk in a heartbeat to save the other, oh it sickens me. and at this point im convinced I'll never get over furuya giving kazami his jacket at the end, such a warm gesture that aches my heart :'DD this movie is truly a gift that never stops giving<333
1, 4, 6 for hirokaza 👀
!!!!! hirokaza!!!! <3 thank you! (ship ask game)
1. On a scale of 1 - 10, how would you rate this ship?
8/10 -- as in, the dynamics in my head are 10/10 to me but there's also no basis to them and absolutely EVERYTHING about this ship is in our heads, there's really nothing in canon to even support it aside from the fact that they're both PSB and know furuya. so from that aspect 8/10
4. How do you see this ship? Examples: "totally married", "besties who date sometimes for fun", "toxic exes that definitely shouldn't be 10 feet near each other".
kouhai-senpai duo, where hiro had a light crush on kazami-senpai when he arrived in the PSB, that then developed into something more serious and sadder after he started infiltrating the BO. kazami was this guy who's barely older than him and barely more senior, but just so professional and overly serious; also so, so kind, and really cute when he gets embarrassed. and hiro kind of wanted to ruin him <3 a little. but also wanted to romance him genuinely
i love to imagine hiro wanting to invite kazami to dates, but kazami was a bit oblivious to them. then, after the BO mission started, hiro would start to see kazami with different eyes. something about the way kazami remained unchanged, seemingly unsullied, while hiro himself had his hands full of blood </3 sometimes he wondered if it'd be easier to have kazami as scotch...
6. A song you think of for this ship?
Ooouuuuughhhh this is difficult but also fun. hmmmmm
i think i like Goodnight and Go by Imogen Heap! the first verse and chorus mostly because i dont think kazami uses headphones but i do think hiro would ask himself why kazami has to be so cute <3
fukunao and akiyama/nao for the ship game
YAY GREAT QUESTION!! Fukunao:
oh the devotion/ they're sweet: I think it's just so so so funny that nao just does whatever she wants and fukunaga is like BITCH...!! WHY DID YOU DO THAT ‼️but then ends up forgiving her every time. It's easy to be devoted to someone you agree with but it takes some real trust to be devoted to someone whose opinion you constantly disagree with. I think Fukunaga is kind of cynical and mean but Nao shows her a different way out and Fukunaga DOES respect her at the end of the day which is why she's like ok fine. I'll let you cook. and nao (and akiyama) cook every time. and going the other way Nao is really devoted to the idea that Fukunaga is someone capable of working for the collective good DESPITE Fukunaga's own insistence that she is a selfish person. isn't that sweet... I knew you were capable of doing the right thing all along...
brb gotta go through their whole ship tag: I literally did this. I think they have so much potential... I think especially because Fukunaga is a trans woman there's a lot of interesting stuff to explore here. Like even though the idea of Fukunaga canonically having a crush on Akiyama is intriguing in itself I do wonder sometimes if that's a bit of comphet intersecting with her trying to assert her gender identity. That she would have this lingering fear of people going "See, you're a man after all" if she got with a woman...
Fucking the same guy: ...which brings me to this point. I think Fukunaga and Akiyama are both kind of self-destructive types. I think there's a timeline where Nao and Akiyama get together as a couple, but Akiyama has these moments of feeling like he doesn't deserve to be with Nao because he's really not a good person deep down. And if Fukunaga happens to be there during one of these moments I can see them fucking about it due to the aforementioned point about her crush-thing on him etc. and then both of them would feel even worse and they both hold that up as proof that they're just ontologically bad people until one of them can't bear it anymore and runs to Nao to confess their sins and Nao literally doesn't care lmaoooo she'd be like ohhh well honestly I don't mind! but it seems to be taking a negative toll on the both of you so as a friend I think I would advise both of you to stop having sex with each other haha in the most genuine and sincere way and then they'd both feel like idiots
I think that would be a funny scenario to put them through. that's all! I don't think this is something that happens in every timeline. just a few ^_^
now that I've written this it's like okay well why isn't I can make this so fucked up marked. and that's bc the fucked up part exists between Fukunaga and Akiyama, not Fukunaga and Nao LMAOOOO
in a relationship. not sure what but in a relationship: Okay well I DO know what the relationship is and it's called "comrades of the vanguard party" and that's a bond that goes deeper than romance and friendship or whatever. THAT'S where Fukunaga's devotion to Nao comes from. She believes sincerely that Nao is doing things in the vanguard party's best interests and that's why she puts up with her even when she doubts her!! I like that they are willing to fight each other about what they think is right. that's real camaraderie.
Akinaooo:
in a relationship not sure what but in a relationship: same as above "comrades in a vanguard party" what's not clicking... it goes deeper than anything on a personal level and if THAT aspect of their bond is ever broken then it's the ultimate betrayal there's no coming back from it
They're sweet/ oh the devotion/most codependent bitches on earth: slightly different flavor from fukunao devotion... I think Fukunao is more like I trust you to make the right choice. I think Akinao is slightly more desperate... it's like I can't do it without you. Nao has the conviction in their ideas that Akiyama lacks and Akiyama can visualize the execution of their ideas which Nao struggles with. They are devoted to each other because they have to be... because they make up for what they lack by staying close to the other... you're the only one who I can do this with... even though I do think both of them changes each other for the better I don't know how much that goes if you physically separate them while continuing to have them in such trying circumstances. but also maybe they do get split up later in the series!! maybe they have character development on this front!! but based on what I've seen I think they're a little codependent <3
They make me feel insane/ thematically delicious: THEY'RE SO. THEY'RE SOOOOO. URGH. I don't know how to explain it... they are THE embodiment of the dialectical aspects of communism. to ME. and that's an insanely high compliment because you all know how crazy I am about birdmen. I think Nao is theory while Akiyama is practice... I think Akiyama is the tearing down of the old system while Nao is the building up of a new system... one can say that Takayama and Karasuma are like this too that Takayama like Akiyama was just doing things all by his lonesome before Karasuma showed him that it was NECESSARY to maximize the potential amongst comrades, but I REALLY enjoy Akiyama's backstory where he engaged in left adventurism, destroyed MLMs... just to land in prison for years. He really is an embodiment of revolutionary fervor that ends up going nowhere because he can only imagine tearing down the old system and he doesn't dare to dream of anything better. Nao is what makes him capable of that. BECAUSE she isn't insanely cunning or smart like Akiyama or Fukunaga she recognized the need to seek help from others. She understands better than anyone that the only way out is together, because she ISN'T superior. They're such a good duo and the way they bounce off each other is just so so so good. They could never achieve alone what they achieved together. it makes me sick they're everything to me
I don't really see them as romantic/ they're exes: I think they are INSANE character foils but I think by making them romantically involved it feels like it undercuts the whole narrative point about running the vanguard party together imooo... like I genuinely don't think they see each other as romantic, but I do think it would be easy for them to make the mistake that maybe they're interested in each other romantically after all?
but I think after they try dating for a little while they find that they're better off as friends and comrades... I think it's an amicable breakup... idk I just think it's more compelling if there isn't romance in there LOL
which is why going through the ship tag is NOT marked... I don't think people really get my insane thoughts about being comrades and just write them romantically normalstyle and I'm like that's not what I'm here for... but to be totally fair I have yet to read many fics so perhaps there's something there yet
THANK YOU FOR ASKING I started reading liar game again recently bc I wanted to actually finish it this time... my beautiful niche sickos... sighs dreamily...
hi mayo!! i was thinking about your software engineering / agile AU and I have this image where the team’s having a meeting and someone was asking if anyone’s got any blockers and esme says “kit snicket’s tedious shirt and the worst jacket i have ever seen and the most out haircut of all time is seriously affecting my work. i see her and want to scream and that’s getting in the way of finishing anything”
vera yes!!! this has made my day!
and kit is like simultaneously absolutely seething at esme’s lack of professionalism but also kit is actively holding herself back from responding with “oh do you want me to take it off? how about my pants too? would you like that?!?”
and most of the team is pretty oblivious, but bertrand is there, quietly pretending to mind his own business, thinking about how you could cut the sexual tension with a knife and wondering if he should forcibly remove kit from the room before she does something she will regret.
and beatrice is also watching having a private battle between her jealousy, desire to see them fight, and her sense of professionalism.
