soo i've always thought the grunt-smith feud was fascinating both thematically and aesthetically. on the surface it seems like "xenophobic guy grooms his family and the rest of the world into hating aliens because racist" and yes that's Part of it but it goes deeper imo...... it doesn't perfectly resemble any IRL phenomenon because Buzzy Bee's a little right i mean the aliens DO abduct and implant parasites into people!! but it doesn't mean he should persecute every green person he sees (which isn't technically canon but a very popular fanon that i semi-adopt 🙂‍↕️). my take on it is that the whole conflict is quite morally gray and there's no good or bad side. pt9's got some closeted skeletons of his own as we know...

and then Aesthetically...woaw. both have this retro theme going on and i LOVE ITTT the smiths are very 20th century nuclear family while the grunts are a very Cold War military household, you could say. the smiths have this picturesque cape cod home, green lawn & white picket fences, and the grunts have that dull midcentury colonial home with an obstacle course and observatory tower in the back. so my idea was how about we #suburbiamaxx by making them that idea of "Arguing with your neighbor over the fence" sorta thang. except the fence between them is pretty tall in this because they don't want to see each other jhfkskhlhgjs

going back to their green lawn we could also argue that the smiths' fake grass and likely fake foliage is reflective of their own superficiality but ^_^!!! I Have Many Thoughts lmao this should have been a separate post IDC

Something I love about The Sims 2 fandom is that the majority, or part of it, has collectively decided to mold the idea that Tank is gay (or at least not straight) and that Johnny serves as his first real romantic/sexual awakening.

And at least for me, it makes perfect sense because in The Sims 2 canon, Tank is written as the typical rigid, repressed teenager molded by his military and xenophobic father. That context is perfect for a character who also represses his feelings and identity. Johnny, on the other hand, being an alien hybrid, embodies the "other," the different, what Tank's father hates. Precisely for that reason, Tank's attraction to him is not only a romantic/sexual awakening, but also a challenge to everything his father stands for.

In the enemies-to-lovers trope, Johnny isn't just "the enemy"; he's the exception that shakes Tank's armor, and that's where the discovery of his true orientation is born. Thus, Johnny becomes the crack through which the light enters: he is not only the boy who confronts him, but the one who makes him feel something he had never experienced, forcing him to question who he is beyond the military and homophobic mold imposed on him by his father.
