He is so fucking in love, your honer.
I would like to spend ... hmmm
... I mean ... why can't we?
... just the two of us."
(Modified) excerpt from The Sign of the Four, by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
The Tarmac Confession Meta
“Six months on and he’s just given it away?”
-Sherlock, while deducing Harry Watson’s failing marriage in ASiP
Guess what?
In His Last Vow, (exactly six months after Mary shoots Sherlock and it’s played as surgery even though he literally died) John is NOT wearing a wedding ring while on the Tarmac to meet Sherlock before his exile.
“If she’d left him, he would have kept it [the ring]- people do; sentiment. No, he’d gotten rid of it- he left her.”
-Sherlock, while deducing Harry Watson’s failing marriage in ASiP
“John, there's something I should say, I've meant to say always and I never have.”
-Sherlock, on the Tarmac in HLV
And something similar happened to John!
“There’s stuff that you wanted to say...but didn’t say it.”
-Ella, to John, in TRF
Hm. This has been poured over numerous times, but also- what the HELL was Sherlock going to say? Because it wasn’t, you know, “the joke”.
“Ladies and gentlemen, people tell you not to milk a good speech – get off early, leave ’em laughing. Wise advice I’ll certainly try to bear in mind.”
-Sherlock, making his wedding speech in TSoT
Leave them laughing.
“Sherlock is actually a girl’s name.”
-Sherlock, on the Tarmac in HLV
Hm. Let’s put it all together, shall we? No wedding ring, crumbling marriage, something that was always supposed to be said but never was, a final smile-
We’re definitely looking at an aborted love confession, whether it was written that way or not. One of them was planning on saying something.
I wonder what that was.
Hello Tarmac My Old Friend
Soooo.... What if I told you that Moffat posted this on his Instagram today...
And later today Arwel posted this...
I'm 90% sure this is the same hangar, you can see the white flagpole in Moffat's photo just peeking on the lower margin of Arwel's photo, the same basic structure with the carpark (?) on the right side of the building and the trees on the right.
So, ya know, just leaving it out there...

You cannot convince me that Sherlock didn't say "Sherlock's actually a girl's name" because he knew that if he were a girl, he could be with John
I just had a very cursed thought-
What if Sherlock was actually shipped out that day at the tarmac and John made Rosie's middle name Willow (alternative name to William) and like-
Mycroft would refuse to call Rosie anything but Willow because its all he has left of his little brother-
and-
🥺
