Random thought post of the day, with some context first: partway through my first BG3 playthrough, with a half-elf, Oath of Ancients paladin Tav. I headcanon that she's a virgin/voluntarily celibate for religious reasons, sanctity of life and all that. And though she's sweet on Gale (and in my mind by this point they have kissed a couple of times) they haven't had that discussion yet.

Which is to say, when they find Arabella in Reithwin Town and Gale is so happy to see her, and delightedly refers to her as having "A little more Weave up her sleeve" - I think that's the point where Tav goes "OK, smash. That man can have a shot at putting a baby in me."

Idk y'all, just the joy he shows in the development of a child that isn't even his. Sure, he'll have former gifted kid and perfectionist stuff to work through, but can you imagine Dad Gale? In that moment, I think Eilidh (Tav) could.

thinking abt how coyotl is given up as an offering to queen mab so she’ll stop tormenting their village. how his full name is probably stitched onto the blanket he’s wrapped in. a token placed in his blanket, a silent hope that he might one day find his way back to his mother. the desperation that must’ve driven her to trade her child so mab’s dreams would stop tormenting her people, and how little coyotl cares.

he doesn’t even know his last name, the embroidered name too tattered by the time he can read it. how he wants nothing to do with his parents, that village, none of it.

thinking about how he does not want to see mayrina as a victim. she’s sobbing, tells him her husband was afraid of the dark, how they were sweethearts. she’s not malicious. she’s younger than he is, her brothers are dead, and she’s saddled with a child she’s not sure how to raise. coyotl hates her and her tears. how she’s not evil, just scared. it’s the worst thing he can imagine, that his mother might’ve been just as desperate, just as afraid.

thinking about how she gives him her necklace, thinking it might be worth something, how it’s only worth one coin, and he can’t help but think of his mother and the useless token tucked in a child’s blanket.

Having brain rot over this silly little fictional wizard and my Tav is crazy like I think about them all the time!!! I put them in so many situations!!! But they rarely get anywhere because my Tav would just either not engage in the narrative or some other bullshit.

A lot of people like to do age gap stuff with Gale and you do you I like reading those but when I try to put Poppy in one I just KNOW she would bully this man. And whenever I’ve thought like “oh what if I made them fake date” she reaches through the screen to strangle me. She’s too self aware. Or narrative-aware. She’s like Rincewind in Discworld he knows how the world works and so does she—-she knows I’m the author and would wake me up from a deep sleep to slaughter me if I dared to put her in a situation so silly as fake dating.

(To be fair, she’s down for a one off fake dating thing but to UPKEEP it!?!??? She’ll nope right out of there)

But what’s actually sweet about this is that to me Poppy x Gale are the epitome of those TikTok videos where people say they’d be best friends in every universe.

I would love to write a fic where they’re not friends beforehand but I need to find Poppy at the right time 😭😭😭

I love seeing all the things people decide that "Tav" is short for. I prefer Tavya, but I've seen Tavara, Taviana, Taverei, Tavanni, Gustav, and so so many more. I love them all.
