X: *shifting uneasily* That’s Jules’ sister Walker, and her new boyfriend Obie.  

C: *giggle* So, you hate him.

X: *defensive* I don’t really know him. He seems to make her happy, I guess. *shrugs*

C: *amused snort* You hate him, hate him!

X: Nah. He’s alright, I guess.

C: *smiles to self* Tell that to your tone. *Xander smiles weakly, Coco doesn’t press* What do they do?

X: She’s a photographer. A damn good one. *smiles proudly* Moved out to Del Sol Valley to pursue it. I think he’s in advertising or something like that.

C: Impressive! So, those are your only cousins? *Xander nods* Your aunt and uncle must be crazy proud. To get both of their kids out of this podunk town… that’s no small feat.  

X: Oh… Um, they’re—they’re not from here. I mean, we spent a lot of time here growing up; it’s like a second home, but we’re all from the Creek.

C: *surprised* Oh! My bad, I thought—because you said you were visiting your uncle I assumed—

X: No, no! It makes sense, but no. My um, my uncle and aunt have a place out here. So, we just—

C: Oh… Oh! Wow… so you all… you like grew up— *frowns in confusion* I’m sorry, what exactly does your family do?

X: *chuckles* Well… um, my dad is an appellate court judge, and my mom’s a semi-retired speech pathologist. Jules’ folks are… um… Uncle Dane is in… politics, and aunt Nicki’s an attorney. They all met in undergrad at Britechester. Julian and Walker are actually my play cousins.

C: Holy shit?! You kidding me with this right now?? I mean, I knew you were from the Creek, but I thought it was like, Foundry Cove or something! I mean, you hang out at Cooper’s! With woocking Ritchie!

X: *amused* What’s wrong with Cooper’s?! *Coco shoots him a look* Hey, they’ve a great happy hour!

C: So basically, all this time, you’ve been the millionaire next door who’s slumming it?

X: You do realize we work in the same office, right? Forget that! Our desks literally face each other!

C: Yeah, except I’m the first in my family to go to college and I’m in student debt up to my eyeballs. Your family bought a whole house 4 hours away just for holidays and your mom’s retired from a career I’ve never even heard of before today!

X: *laughing* What does that have to do with anything?? I mean, does it matter?!

C: It doesn’t! Except it does!!! Argh!!! *laughing*

T: *off key* AA-AYE DON’T WANT A LOT FOR WINTERFEST! THERE IS JUST ONE THING I NEED…

C: Just be glad you’re telling me this and not her! She’d be trying to woocking blow you in the damn bathroom!

As the night wore on, we all took a goofy turn at the mic. Caroling devolved into whatever song came to mind, culminating in Tavi and Julian’s infamous rendition of “Purple Rain”. The drinks and laughter were flowing as new friendships formed.

I loved Tavi, though she kept a respectful distance from me and Obie. I may have been a wee too forceful in my introduction, lol. Everyone else seemed pretty chill.

Xan seemed more relaxed than I had seen him in ages. Though I couldn’t quite tell, it seemed like he and Coco were hitting it off. It was as heartwarming as it was unnerving. Don’t get me wrong, it was good to see his smiles reach his eyes again. As his friend, I knew I should want this for him. But I’m still a sim, and it didn’t make it any easier. In the moments I could afford to steal a glance, I found myself feeling jealous and relieved in equal measure.

J: … Walker!

W: *snapping out of reverie* Huh? I’m sorry, what?

J: *everyone laughs* I said, you’re up!

W: What do you mean? I already sang! Hell, I sang with you, Pita and Uchechi!

U: Oh, please! You haven’t sung yet and you know it!

T: Hold up now! What’d I miss??

W: Nothing!

J: O, has she ever sung for you bruh?

O: *chuckles* Yeah, she sings all the time at home, when she’s cooking, in the shower—

J: Nah, nah, nah! That doesn’t count! I mean has she sung?

P: You been holding back on us chickadee?

O: *smiling curiously* I’m starting to wonder the same thing…

U: Come on Wally! *table rowdily chants Wal-ly*

W: *mildly amused* I’m not nearly drunk enough this.

J: That can be remedied! *signals for a waiter* Chichi’s driving tonight anyway.  

O: Come on babe, I’m starting to think you don’t trust me! *chuckle*

W: FINE! *the group erupts in cheers*

C: What’s happening?

X: I guess Wally’s gonna sing.

C: *sighs* It’s a Winterfest Karaoke night. Make sure you ask before adding Xander’s friends to the—

T: Can’t hear you! They’re singing my song!

X: *chuckling* Tavi’s a trip.

C: *sigh* Yeah… easy for you to say. You’ve yet to feel the brunt of her full “Tavi-ness”.

X: *laughing* Eh… you forget I have her kindred spirit, Jules. *shakes head* If we weren’t there when they met today, I’d swear they’re in cahoots.

C: So, it’s not just me? Does this feel like a set up you too?

X: An un-abashed set up. *nods* Yeah, very much.

C: *chuckles* Glad I’m not going crazy. Explains why she hid my outfit while I was in the shower and forced me into this get up.

X: Makes sense. You do look nice though, clearly not your style. *Coco shakes head* Do we know they don’t know each other…

C: No… You think?

X: Wouldn’t surprise me. I don’t know. Maybe… What does Tavi do for a living?

C: She’s an Admin. Assistant for Landgraab Logging, over in Evergreen Harbor. Jules?

X: He’s in finance; a wealth manager for Goth International out in Willow Creek.

C: *low whistle* Yeah, I highly doubt they know each other. That’s way, way out of Tavi’s circle. I take it, that’s his wife’s in the $900 Sentate sweater?

X: That would be correct; Uchechi. But I don’t know about the sweater. Could their companies do business?

C: Maybe…  At this point, who knows? I’m a just glad I don’t have to spend the evening running interference for you. *Xander laughs* I’m serious! I was worried I was gonna have to pack a spray bottle or something.

X: Well, I appreciate it. Not that she’s not beautiful… just—

C: A lot.

O: *chuckles in surprise* Whiskey, huh? *Walker, smirks tilting her head in challenge, gives a quick wink* Hm…make that two.

T: Oh-kay… Comin’ right up!

X: *awkwardly* let me help you with that.

T: Such a gentleman.

X: Not always… *chuckling*

T: Ha! Ok, Xander… I see you, boo!

X: So, where’s Coco? I thought—

T: *covertly assessing* She’s here. She went to the bathroom, or to make a call or something. Sorry, sexy. You’re stuck with me for the time being.

X: *chuckles* I can live with that.

T: I hope your cousin didn’t take offense just now. I was just—

X: Nah, Wally’s cool. I don’t think she meant anything by it.

T: *giggles* You and me both! Feel like she’s about to drink me under the table, before whooping my ass!

T: *stage whisper* I’m starting to see why you don’t come home more often.

J: Coco, is it? Please… Tell me more about this girlfriend. Our little Xan is just full of surprises!

X: *annoyed* You wanted something?

J: *laughing* Just that we’re almost ready, but it can wait—
