“Why?” you shout, forgetting all of your pain and fear and nervousness, all of it replaced by sheer panic at the Empress’s newest order.

“Consider it your punishment for spreading your sick, sick ideas about inter-caste pity,” the Empress replies coolly. “I can tell that hurting Vriska would hurt you much more than anything I could do to you. You sea, only hatred and subservience can exist between a highblood and lowblood if our Empire is to be kept safe. Pity triggers chemical imbalances in the thinkpan that result in rebellious thoughts. You and Vriska are only the best of examples.”

The Empress’s explanations make absolutely no sense to you. “But, but–Vriska never did anything wrong!”

We've not long ago had Equius programming a chip into robo-Aradia to make her love him, culminating in her tearing out her own robo-heart, beating him about the face, and hatesmooching him. And now we have another blue blood trying to manipulate a lower blood into hate/loving her. What is it with these kids (oh wait yeah their whole procreate-or-be-murdered-by-drones society, anyway- )

We know that (from 2296) Vriska has a special kind of hate for Tavros that isn't reciprocated and she's unwilling to admit it's a romantic type of hate... But then we get this sequence.

This is just as staged as the Aradiabot situation. She made him dress up. She got dressed up as the blue fairy from the pictures on his walls, it's half mocking half provocative. And there's the coy little narrative voice. And then we get:

Tavros has no fucking idea what's going on. And in the third panel we see a little heart and spade flicker back and forth - it's not clear who is having this indecision. Possibly Vriska, possibly Vriska trying to see if Tavros will fall either way - which he doesn't -

She drops him in frustration and then - and this is really interesting - fucked up, but interesting! - she makes him be briefly in love with her - but it's fucked up and wrong and not what she wanted because it's not real and -

Look at her face. That didn't go how she wanted at all. In this moment she's just a humiliated, extremely deadly, teenage girl.

I'm genuinely obsessed with Vriska and Tavros' post-sprite ghost relationship. They both can barely stand the other except it somehow swings back round to the point where they need each other. It's teasing to flirting in .5 of a second. What a glorious shitshow.
