~ to chapter 1
the vibrant led of your phone screen glared back at you as you stared at it with disgust— well, at the person messaging you— as you stared at the contact picture, you can feel chills of anger run down your spine as you imagine seeing those same set of eyes in person, looking at you with mock amusement and the same disdain that you throw towards him.
hwang hyunjin. the most evil guy on the face of the earth. the same guy who used to push you around in the playgrounds at age 6, making you go home caked with mud all over.
but no matter how much it got bad, you never told on him. whenever your parents would ask about why your toys were broken, your pigtails pulled, you always greeted them back with a smile and said: “i just had so much fun playing!”— because even back then, you knew, your child heart had understood that if you spoke even one word against him, you lose. it was a continuous battle on who would fold first, and you never did. you never even shed a single tear, instead you looked back at him with a face full of fury whenever he’d hog the swings with a challenging smirk on his boyish face. it was war— and it forever will be.
when your family moved away to another country during middle school, you lived life to the fullest, met new friends, established your personality, and grew up in your own world without the boy with the glaring eyes who tormented you on the daily. it wasn’t until you moved back during university did you realize how much of a nightmare you would be reliving.
there, you saw him, hwang hyunjin.
and he definitely saw you.
instead of just worrying about regular college life, you have to worry about a guy hellbent on making you plummet down the ground.
it was the playgrounds all over again, but instead of being physical with each other, it was now more complicated. psychological warfare at it’s fullest. he pulled the rug under your feet whenever you’d get your footing on the world, and you’d tackle him on the ground just to make him have a taste of his own medicine.
you destroyed each other. stole each other’s opportunities. could it even be counted as stabbing in the back if you fully know who it was and what they’re doing? perhaps not. this was a face-value knife fight. no one’s backing down.
but no matter how much hwang hyunjin made you miserable, there was that one light in your life that always helped you get back on your feet— yet you don’t know their name.
you both met in an anonymous website during one night of boredom and curiosity— and you immediately hit it off, taking your conversations off the app and forever a part of your lives. yet you both still remained anonymous, not wanting to disclose much about each other’s personal life, perhaps it was the fear, perhaps it was something else.
but you look forward to talking to them everyday, you look forward to their messages, and you look forward to replying to them.
genre: crack, fluff, semi-angst | strangers to lovers
synopsis: you lost your phone during a nice vacation and now some weirdo picked it up.
a/n: i know i'm technically on break/hiatus but just wanted to drop this lil teaser (not like i'll be writing for it until i finish the minho one tho but i'm just excited to write for seungmin again). but anyways, i shall disappear back to my basement again for an indefinite period of time 🧸💕.
"Do you want to get smacked in the head? Because this is how you get smacked in the head."
pairing: bestfriend!han jisung x reader x popular boy!minho
genre: crack, fluff, love triangle | loosely inspired by the netflix series "never have i ever" (just very very loosely though, not a lot—moreso just the love triangle and quirky narration part) | university au
warnings: none atm.
synopsis: you thought you were finally done with everything remotely immature especially now that you were in college, but boy oh boy did lee minho strike something in your heart that got you acting like a lovesick high school teenager— thankfully, resident sweetheart han jisung is here to save the day and help you become the best chic and mature version of yourself so that you could confess to your long time campus crush.
a/n: this is supposedly just a short and sweet quote fic as requested by my lovely anon, but i ended up liking the concept so much that i'm going to make it a long fic instead! (p.s. this short blurb might not be a part of the main fic, just a quick preview to the characters, so if you want, you could definitely just read this drabble as a standalone instead!)

"jisung..." your best friend looked at your direction, specifically on the ground where you sat, knees held close to your chest as you tried to make yourself as small as humanely possible. "i feel like puking."
"y/n~ what did i tell you? confidence is key! minho won't be able to notice you if you keep hiding away from his line of sight— repeat after me: i'm the best view." he said, making you scrunch your face as he so adamantly tries to get you to keep referencing a specific meme.
"i feel like puking even more now."
"just try and say it!" he insisted.
"no <3."
"but you're my best view." he pouted.
you feigned a gagging motion and he rolled his eyes at your dramatics, trying to pull you off the concrete. you stood on wobbly legs, trying to balance yourself on the heels that he graciously bought you to enhance your mature look.
"you know even the most formal business ladies wear sneakers too, right? i don't have to walk in these."
he gave you a cheeky smile and a small pat on the back, "well, yes, you're right. but hurrah to woman empowerment and whatnot."
"that doesn't even make any sen—"
"oh hey there minho!" your words got cut off at the act of your best friend calling the attention of your crush.
you would try to say that it's such a nice coincidence that he's walking in your path but no, jisung planned all of this, not that you could complain though. seeing him within 3 feet of you feels like a dream, his cologne mixing in with his natural scent permeating the air, making your legs feel like jelly.
you swore you were going to fall down when he flashed you a sweet smile. "hey, what's up?"
"ah nothing much, just walking around." jisung waved off casually as you stood there astonished that you're interacting with lee minho— well, jisung is. but you count as association.
"oh? this isn't anywhere close to your campus buildings though? aren't you both in the arts department?" he tilted his head in mild confusion, making him look like a puppy. your heart felt like bursting out of his chest at his cuteness.
"y-you know where we are?" you blabbed, feeling stupid at the phrasing but hoped you got your question across.
"of course!" his smile growing even wider, "you always hang out at cafe 808 right?"
you didn't know if it was possible to fall for someone even harder, but you just did.
"oh— uhh.. yes, i definitely do that, yes." you stammered, trying your best not to trip over your words which your best friend probably noticed because after a second, jisung cleared his throat at your side.
"ehem. what y/n is trying to say here is that she would like to come hang with you at cafe 808 some time whenever you're free."
your eyes were as wide as saucers as you looked at your bestfriend who had sent you to your doom— or probably heaven, depending on minho's answer.
"sure! i'll catch you there when i have time then." he smiled at you, and you tried your best to return the gesture, though the best you probably mustered was a pained grimace. "i have to go now though, nice talking to you both."
"yup!" jisung responded and you just waved, unable to form even the most basic of words at the moment.
"oh, also, you look different today, y/n. it's nice, you look good." shooting you another one of his best smiles, you watch dumbfoundedly as his figure slowly disappeared from view as he entered the college building.
you were wrong— this is where you fell even harder.
he has rendered you speechless, and quite frankly, out of breath. with just a single compliment!
your heart's beating so fast that you really do feel like puking.
"well that went well, didn't it? what did i tell you?" jisung nudged your arm, pulling you out of your stupor. you were about to thank him but then you suddenly remembered the predicament he put you in.
you smacked him repeatedly, him shouting as he tried to shield himself away from you. "do you want to get smacked in the head? because this is how you get smacked in the head."
"you're already smacking me— what— yah! y/n, what hell?!" he protested and you just huffed.
"han jisung?! are you an idiot? why would you set up something like that?? what if we hang out and he realizes that i'm not really that cool, or what if he doesn't like me, or even worse, what if i embarrass myself?!" you buried your face on your hands, wanting to cry out the frustration. "ugh this is stressful."
"oh come on, y/n. isn't this the whole point of what we're doing? to get you closer to minho? or are you gonna tell me that you're satisfied with just staring at him from a distance like the weird creep that you are." you glared at him.
"yes!" he rolled his eyes, feigning disappointment with your answers.
"i believe in you y/n. besides, what could go wrong?"
seungmin and jeongin glared at each other, not wanting to back down from their own ideas, both thinking that they had the better plan than the other. it was exhausting, watching them go like this, but at the same time, they were your best bet at survival, so you guys let them fight it out, settle it like civil adults through a series of pros and cons—one that weighs everyone's life in their hands. it wasn't an easy job having their task, the task of being responsible of everyone's essence despite them being the two youngest guys, to be the men behind the strategies that could either kill us or lead us to a slightly better chance of survival.
jeongin shook his head, pointing out the specifics of his plan, “if we go from where we are right now, hallway D to B, we’d have access to the teacher’s lounge, we get extra space plus it has it’s own bathroom. sure, being near the main stairwell is risky but as long as we secure that opening, we’d be able to have direct access to the most important thing—the rooftop.”
that piqued everyone’s interest. the rooftop.
that shut seungmin up, he looked at the ground, biting his lip in frustration as he sighed, it was dangerous, but even he can’t argue that jeongin’s plan was the better one.
jisung looked between the two, wary of speaking up but wanting to get this over with, “well? i guess we’re going with jeongi—”
“i’m going with my plan.” seungmin cut him off, glaring straight at the floor.
“w-what do you mean?” felix asked.
“it means you can do whatever the hell jeongin wants and i’m doing what i want.”
hyunjin grabbed seungmin by the shoulder, making him look straight in his eyes, “is this another one of your suicide runs? we know you’re smart and capable and you always manage to come back alive but we just lost two people—two strong people—we can’t afford you being reckless right now.” he hissed but seungmin seemed determined.
“i still think it’s worth a shot.” seungmin’s eyes were calm but serious, it’s the sign of someone who’ve thought things through. does he think he can make it out alive? not one hundred percent, but he’s ran the simulation over and over in his head to think that perhaps he has a good chance.
you gently grabbed seungmin’s hand, shaky and tired, “maybe i should go with—”
“no.” he snapped, “i have a better shot at going alone.”
“that’s because you think you’re going to die.” minho pointed, making seungmin glare at him.
“if we do it all in unison our chances of success might go higher.” seungmin reasoned, “on the day of the next supply run, y/n, hyunjin, and yeji will be taking the back staircase, i’ll go with them until we have to split ways. minho and chan can do jeongin’s plan with him. that way, our options are spread, noise will be our biggest issue but if there’s a lot of us there, we have a higher chance of winning in a fight.”
everyone thought about it, their eyebrows furrowed, hyunjin was the first to speak, “but that sounds like a—” he cut himself off with the realization.
a last stand.
seungmin was suggesting a hail mary.
“actually. that doesn’t sound like a bad idea.” jeongin backed, making seungmin nod at him in acknowledgement.
with a plan backed up by the both of them, it meant we have no other choice but to go with it, no matter the hidden implications—no matter how dangerous, no matter how deadly. if the two brains of the team gave it a thumbs up, then it's going to be set in motion.
everyone felt it. this was it.
we’d either all die or we’d succeed. the chances are… unknown.

Not really. Today, at noon EST, the registration for the first Best Damn Race Orlando (running March 1, 2014) opened. Registration for this race works a bit differently than most other races in that pricing varies based on the number in line in which you sign up with some very heavy discounts for early sign-ups. The pricing for the 2014 race are as follows (half marathon only):
0-10= $1
11-20= $5
21-30=$10
31-40=$15
41-100=$35
100-500=$55
501-1000=$65
1,001-1,500= $85
Knowing this pricing strategy, I made sure to click on the register button exactly when registration opened at 12:00 PM. Well, imagine my surprise when the website told me that my number in line was 126. 126, and I had clicked on it at 12PM on the dot. What this tells me is that a) a lot more people were also anticipating running the Orlando edition of TBDR and b) there's also a lot of people with faster reflexes and c) faster internet connections (this third one isn't so surprising seeing as how my internet is slow as molasses).
So, I didn't get one of the heavier discounts (sad day) and fell into the $55 category. At this rate of registration, TBDR Orlando may sell out super quickly. Luckily, though, I still registered on the first day and get another benefit of TBDR early registration---free race photos! Signing up before 11:59 PM EST on 11/2 means that you get a free digital download package post race amongst the usual benefits like free beer, food and massages after the race :)
While it wasn't the best damn registration for me anyway, I think it could still be the best damn race.
