[I live and work In Changwon, South Korea. That] day I had a plethora of reactions from the students and staff. My colleagues loved the look. One staff member looked as if she would die, when I walked in. In my first class one student said, "teacher! Your hair is strange!" He proceeded to say my hair looked like broccoli, which I embraced throughout the class. It was lighthearted and I was not offended. In my next class, when my middle schoolers walked in, they gasped. "Aww cute!!!" They screamed. One of my students stared at me and said "so cutie teacher." One of my students, Cindy, said she wanted to touch my hair, and I let her. The girls told me that Cindy was having culture shock because of my hair. I thought that was funny and told them that culture shock is not a bad thing. As I was walking home from work, writing this post a guy jumped when we saw me and stopped mid-stroll to stare as I passed. ~~ I love the way I look. Often I don't do certain things because of the reactions I might get - be that wearing a crazy hair style or putting fangs on my teeth when it isn't Halloween. One reaction today that I loved was, "Hi Teacher." "Hello Sejung." "Oh teacher, your hair is cool!" "Ha thank you!" I live for that validation but I work to challenge the ones who see my little puffs as "strangey", because without a little push - how will we ever grow pass the status quo. #BeBold #BeBeautiful
