Tea with Dcdweeb: Racists Starfire Fan/s

Note: I’m sorry in advance for this long post, but I’m on mobile and I can’t add the “read more break” on here. I’ll try to crop the photos in the next post if I can.

I’m taking time to make this post instead of working on damirae week because this is important, and I want you guys to be aware. Before I get into the receipts and the point of this post, I just want to say this.

How can you call yourself a Starfire fan, but are hateful and racists towards a black playing Starfire. Also how can you be a Starfire fan when you support people who are racist towards a black woman playing Starfire.

Now, how this was brought to my attention is a fellow mutual of mines tweeted a screenshot showing they were blocked by celestialkory.

Therefore, leading me to ask them why they were blocked, and here is what they told me.

This person has also been called out for editing Anna’s Starfire skin color as well.

Now time to get into reason why all of this started. Basically there’s cosplayer on Twitter who cosplayed Starfire. However, this cosplayer has been called out for liking tweets about people hating against Anna Diop for obvious reasons.

Tea with Dcdweeb: Fanon Dick Grayson

The phenomenon of fanon is when a fandom takes what is canon and try to reform it to their own interpretation. Now by the title we’re going to be talking about Fanon Dick Grayson. It is different from canon because this is how fans see Dick Grayson and traits they chose for them compare to his canon traits.

So, I’m going to list the most common fanon traits of Grayson that I see a lot on Tumblr.

Dick Grayson is the “happy” Robin. This is the most common trait of fanon Grayson out there, and in my opinion the most annoying. Writing him off as just “happy” is very one-dimensional. He has his trauma, he can get angry, he has insecurities, he feels pain. For a character who has been through so much in eighty years of existence, you think he’s rainbow and sunshine all the time? Not saying he doesn’t have happy moments because he does. Dick is obviously a positive influence in the hero community. C’mon put some respect on his character.

Dick Grayson the “womanizer”. Unfortunately the comics gives off this impression that Dick is always going from women to women. I know two situations shouldn’t been seen like that because of the non-consensual context. Anyway, I do believe it mostly has to do with the fact that he’s an attractive male character. Which is pretty shallow way to think about the character if you ask me. For a character who is known to be very loyal don’t you think that trait would be pass on to his love life? Hell, the man has two well-known and committed relationships. One more thing I want to include is someone in the fandom is calling Dick “Slutwing” now which further pushes the narrative that he sleeps with everyone he comes into contact to with.

His cereal addiction. This one seems so random? Like where did this even come from? Why cereal of all foods? I find this one stupidly funny until fans started to make it a personality trait, and it just became stale like old cereal.

Not the “smart” Robin. I personally blame Tim Drake stans for this one because they label him as the “smart and detective” Robin (even tho Dick is a great detective) and Dick gets dumb down. Dick was not the first Robin, leader of the first Titans group, hell I think he lead the Justice League, was Batman in all his eighty years of existence for y’all to disrespect him like that.

Dick Grayson is reckless. I blame the Grayson comic for this, escpecially the story that was included in the Robin 80th Anniversary issue. It’s the perfect example of how fans and even writers think that Dick just jump into situations without thinking first. If that was the case then he wouldn’t be a trusted leader to the Teen Titans and Titans and been trusted to be Batman. Seriously he deserves way more respect than that.

If I left out any other fanon traits please let me know in the comments. Remember this is not hate to anyone who likes this version of Dick Grayson, but as for someone who loves this character and is learning about his core traits, it gets frustrating to see how his character is perceived.

Tea with Dcdweeb: The Race of Starfire

I never thought I would make a post talking about Starfire’s race because it’s pretty obvious that she’s Tameranian, and she’s from the planet Tameran. I forgot to mention that she’s alien and has a golden to orange skin tone, depending on the comic. That means that Starfire isn’t from Earth, and therefore she has no Earth race, ethnicity, and nationalities.

Why am I mentioning all this? Well, for someone who is an eighteen-year-old black girl, and who is always looking forward to seeing representation for my community. The live action Titans show was aired in October 12, 2018. Anna Diop was casted as Starfire, and oh my fucking gosh, the amount of controversy it created in the fandom still baffles me. I knew why a lot of “fans” were upset that a dark-skin black woman got casted because they’re racist, and the majority of them wanted a white woman. Or someone close to white like a mix or an ambigious black woman. Which doesn’t make sense to me because some of these racist fucks complaints are that Starfire needs to be be orange. If that’s the case then why does Anna being casted is such an issue? Oh right, it’s because they hate to seeing a dark skin black woman being represented. A lot will deny it, but it’s the truth. A fun fact for those individuals, it’s a known fact that Marv Wolfman was inspired by black models to create Starfire, so there’s that.

In conclusion, Starfire can be played by a person of color. Representation is important, and if that bothers you then you need to reevaluate your mindset.

Tea with Dcdweeb: Tom King Edition

It’s about time I made a post about this man knowing all the shit he has pulled in comics this past year. So sit back, relax, and watch me drag this man through filth.

First, lets discuss the tragedy that was the BatCat wedding. He called it off because King believes Bruce can’t be Batman if he’s happy which is complete bullshit. If you ask me, I think that’s a fundamental aspect of a hero. That would boost Bruce’s motivation to be Batman to know he has love ones to fight for, not only the citizens of Gotham. Now during the buildup for the wedding, one of my issues was Tom implying that Bruce didn’t have happiness before he got engage to Selina; no disrespect to her but Selina isn’t his only source of happiness. Unless the dingdong forgot Bruce has many children (we don’t do that “one” son bullshit) Alfred, his friends that brings light to his life. Another issue I had with pre-wedding BatCat is how Bruce and Selina refer to each other as “Bat” and “Cat” like what? It’s just awkward knowing full-grown adults call each other the names of the animals they dress up as. Like I understand if they call each other that during their night jobs, but out of costume? It’s ridiculous. Also, and someone can correct me if I’m wrong because I don’t read the Batman comic, but judging from what I’ve read in the anti-Tom King tags, the man made Bruce more of an incompetent man-child and having Selina doing everything for him. Also I’m going to mention briefly of the almost love triangle Tom created between Bruce, Diana and Selina. It would be unnecessary drama and not relatable to whatever plot was going on.

Next, is the Hero In Crisis mess. The first issue it killed off Roy and Wally. Just starting off the event with a banger huh, Tom? Literally. Booster Gold, another fan favorite character was killed off I think? Someone correct in the comments if I’m wrong. Some of the confessions were underwhelming to say the least. Especially the confessions with Dick, Jason, Tim, and Damian. They all sound the same with no individuality like c’mon King it isn’t hard to put in a little effort in these confessions.

Another problem I have with Tom is Batman issue #1000 which was suppose to be an important issue for the series. And it flopped. Like really flopped. The amount of times Tom King discredit Dick Grayson in that issue was ridiculous. My favorite part is Barbara comparing war to dating Dick. ..........what? I’m not a hardcore Barbara Gordon fan, and I don’t know too much about her character, but I know enough to know that it’s not something she would normally say. Especially about someone who is important to her, but go off King I guess.

Next, and this is my opinion, but in the Batman series I feel like Tom King puts Selina on this pedestal and gives her too much credit? Don’t get me wrong, Selina is capable of many things, but I think it’s a little unrealistic for her to take down the Flash, the FLASH with ease in that issue where Poison Ivy controls the League like what? Or how she defeated Talia in a swords fight. The TALIA AL GHUL who trained her whole life in swordsmanship, so for her to lose in her own ball park was uh interesting.

Speaking of Talia, as indifferent as I am about her, I have to sympathize with the character because Tom did her dirty in that issue. Like he tears down a woman to rise the other up. Also I’m about sick of this “Talia is only good as a villain” story. It’s old and it doesn’t do her character any justice. Stop, get some help.

The last thing I’m going to touch on, and it’s a very serious one. Um the way Bruce is being written by King is very problematic, and that’s probably me putting it lightly. I’m not going to get in too much detail because I will be doing a separate post talking about Bruce’s behavior in canon towards his family and whether or not he’s a good father. What I will say is making Bruce an abusive prick because he doesn’t know how to deal with his emotions properly is not okay. If this is Tom’s way of making Batman grittier and darker, it’s not the way.

Tea with Dcdweeb: Dick Grayson Edition

I think I should make this a series on my blog because they’re fun and love to read people’s responses to them.

Since Dick Grayson was the first Robin and I believe the first sidekick to be created in DC, I feel like a good amount of fans puts him on this pedestal. To me it makes sense to an degree. I mean this character is known as the light of DC, an inspiration and someone who’s meaningful to a lot of fans, so I understand having such expectations for him. Then it doesn’t make sense anymore when there’s so many people who labels Dick as “perfect” and god forbids the character do something that’s not “perfect” the fans go ballistic and say he’s ooc.

Example: When the first Titans trailer came out there was a scene of Robin beating up some guys, and I believe one of them was a pedophile so that’s why Dick was after him. Anyway the fight was brutal and so many people were loosing their shit. So much that they had the audacity to say it he was acting out of character and acting too much like Jason. I’m just like “bruh😐” literally loosing brain cells over the stupidity of people’s words.

First of all, Jason is not exclusive to anger. It’s an emotion that every human feels because y’know we’re human. Dick and Jason are humans who both feel anger, but what makes these characters different is how they express that anger. We all know Dicks’ notorious temper or we should. When he’s angry it’s ugly. He let his emotions take over and throws logic right out the window. That’s why it’s dangerous for the people around him because he tends to use excessive force when he gets in that state of mind, unaware of his actions until after he has calmed down. Then he usually feels guilty afterwards. Jason, on the other hand, is driven by his anger. He uses his anger to motivate him to take out the scums of Gotham. He’s aware of his actions and doesn’t regret it.

Some of you fans need to understand that Titans takes place during the time Dick leaves Bruce and doesn’t know what his place is in the world. He struggles to get out of Bruce’s shadow and becoming his own person. That’s why the Teen Titans is a very significant era in Dick’s life and why his relationship with Kory plays a big part in his character development because it shaped him to the character we all know and love.

In conclusion, Dick is someone who rose above his trauma. Who struggle with an identity crisis but found his place. He’s an emotional support system for a lot of people. He puts other people needs before his because he wants everyone around him to be happy. His happy go lucky nature is usually to hide the fact that he’s not okay, but puts on the act so no one he cares about has to worry. He’s caring and loving but has a temper like nobody’s business and can act cold and push people away, but it doesn’t take away the fact that when the weight of the world is on his shoulders he still manage to have hope and make the best out of his situation. He’s jokester but is also serious when the time calls for it. In conclusion, Dick Grayson isn’t this one-dimension character that some people make him out to be.

Tea with Dcdweeb: Fiction vs Reality

Some of y’all about to be real mad at me, but it must be said.

This is kinda a follow up on this post right here. Alright, so I made my opinions on Batcest, and one statement I made upset someone and they reblog the op and shared their opinions and really made me think. What I had said is that, “if people ship incest in fiction does that mean they do in real life?” Which brings up the “fiction vs reality” debate and honestly, some of us are some real ass hypocrites when it comes to this topic. We’re ready to defend someone if they get criticized for writing sensitive topics in their stories. This post and this post are perfect examples of that. But god forbid if someone ships an incessant relationship in fiction their morales are questioned, but who’s there to jump to their defense and say there’s a difference between fiction and reality? I’m not going to act like a saint because I was the same hypocrite. If we’re going to preach about the difference between fiction and reality then keep the same energy when people like “problematic” ships.

For someone who don’t like incessant relationships in fiction and find them weird I have to remember it’s fiction and people are going to like what they like, and I’m not entitled to assume who someone is as a person when I don’t know them. I know some people are going to accuse me of supporting incest when I don’t at all, and I don’t tolerate it in fiction, but I’m going to do what everyone else should, and mind my damn business and scroll pass it if I don’t like it.

The Reason Behind Tea with Dcdweeb

I think this post important to make because people are going to come across these posts, and I want them to know what’s the reason for them. Tea with Dcdweeb was created as a fun and creative to share my opinions on topics that are DC related. Basically me spilling the tea on what goes on in the fandom. My posts are not meant to be hateful in any way. Some might come off that way because I’m very opinionated and throw in some sarcastic undertones because that’s is just my personality. My opinions are not meant to be taken personally, and if you do take it personal, then that’s on you. I can’t control how you react to my posts. I say what I say and I mean what I say. I don’t care if you disagree with what I say because I don’t expect everyone to agree, that’s boring. I’ll respect people’s opinions as long as you’re sharing it respectfully. Besides I love having conversations with people with different opinions and learning others’ perspectives.
