Toddlers and Preschool Children have a difficult time communicating their feelings and emotions.
This difficulty can result in frequent emotional outbursts and tantrums. You all know how frustrating those can be. Just imagine how frustrated your little one must feel to not be able to communicate or even understand their own feelings. Take the time to teach your child how to identify and communicate their feelings and emotions by using a chart like this one.
You can keep a copies of the chart in different areas of your home for easy access at opportune times.
by the thinking chair or time out spot.
in the car
diaper bag
By Their Bedside
Toilet
Your Purse/Wallet
You can also practice acting out different emotions with your child so that they can learn to recognize their emotions and the emotions of others.
Can you make a sad face?
Can you make a mad face?
Can you make a surprised face?
What about a happy face?
Once your children are able to identify and communicate what they are feeling you can then start discussing ways to cope with and manage those feelings.
