Hot take but I just don’t care about House of the Dragon anymore. They missed adaptation and hit fanfic that missed the point of the source material. I understand that they have more wiggle room as all we know about the dance is from the books and not directly from the characters themselves but it gets to a point. And with Akotsk coming out while Hotd is, and that production hitting the nail on its head, makes me extremely disappointed in what we’ve seen from Hotd. The actors are extremely talented and I’m disappointed by the material they’ve been given. I don’t know, i at least think they should have shown the battles as that’s a major part of war in general. The show has turned into The Blacks v the Blacks v Aemond.

one thing i love and cherish about asoiaf is that the smallfolk are always people first. theyre not presented as shining morally pure victims and theyre not evil and backward. they just. exist. some are kind and some are not, and some drag sansa off her horse and some laugh and give arya soup, and some are meek and some storm the dragonpit. theyre made of exactly the same stuff as the high lords are, all the black and white and grey. the only thing different about them is that theyre on the bottom, crushed by the wheel. the smallfolk dream of rain and healthy children and a summer that never ends, no matter how the high lords play their game of thrones. series thesis statement

“Team Black or Team Green?” What about team smallfolk overthrowing the monarchy that are are carelessly flying around on weapons of mass destruction and committing war crimes because of their entitlement over a damn chair when neither side are giving two shits about the people they are supposed to govern

It might come as quite a shock to those who think that having a woman on the throne would mean anything for women's liberation in Westeros, but trickle down feminism is not a thing. Liberation cannot start at the top, it is a movement that must start from the bottom up, otherwise the privileged class simply creates more vectors for oppression. Power and privilege are inherently self-protecting, and a those in power, yes, including women, will tear down the less privileged before sacrificing even a tiny scrap of their own privilege or power. This is one of the main themes of ASOIAF and yet this fandom has bought into the myth of the liberating queen so wholeheartedly that people actually believe that allowing a tyrant to take the throne, so long as she's a woman tyrant, is praxis. Rhaenyra is not a liberator of women or anyone else, in fact she damages the cause of liberation much more than she helps it. Control over the dragons was bought and paid for with the blood of countless slaves, and Rhaenyra wields the tools of the oppressor expertly, threatening all who challenge her with fire and blood, a threat she delivers on before she ever crowns herself queen. Her very claim comes from the belief that the one person in charge should wield absolute power and ruthlessly defend that power with the might of dragons.

Remember who kills more of the living dragons in Fire and Blood than any one Targaryen. Set aside the silly logistics of the storming of the Dragonpit, and think about the bravery it would take to face down a dragon armed with only a pitchfork and conviction. That is where liberation begins, from the people standing in front of the dragons, not those sitting atop them.

Not people wishing that they cut the Storming of the Dragonpit scene entirely. Nah, you cheered for Daenerys when she burned Kings Landing despite the city surrendering. You cheered for Rhaenys when she trampled the small folk who attended Aegon's coronation just so she could have her "Girl Boss Moment Slay".

Now sit and watch as those Mediaeval Nukes of oppression get hacked to pieces when the Small Folk, whom you said "didn't matter in the story" have had enough.

One thing that deeply fascinates me about sept scene is fact that Rhaenyra decided to go to talk specifically to Alicent, like she assumed that Alicent can do something to stop the war. While she clearly can’t…

Like even if she would go full „my bad, we need to fix that” mode, realistically speaking what she can do now? Tell Aegon to give back crown? She is already very much overlooked by everyone else.

And now I wonder is just a part a bigger trend of Rhaenyra assuming Alicent have more control over things she actually does not have or I’m reading to much to it…
