In this case the said white woman is fictional but the intense parasocial relationships that her stans have formed with her has transforming the hatred for the fictional POC male character into hating the real life actor playing the said character.

Just finished Eldest (Inheritance Cycle) here are my thoughts:

Man the pacing of this book seems off to me. And the sheer whiplash I faced whenever they switched POV got very unnerving very soon. Especially with the Glaedr and Oromis reveal and the POV immediately switching to Roran.

Coming to the positives I enjoyed Roran's chapters as they gave a more grounded feel to how the non-magical characters deal with magical threats. Him becoming a leader in his own right, preparing Carvahall to fight against the Ra'zac and the empire's soldiers and eventually leading the villagers on an exodus to Surda was engaging to read. Sometimes I felt they made him too overpowered.

Love how Durza still haunts the narrative despite being dead. The injury he inflicted on Eragon acted as a handycap both on the boy's mind and body until the blood oath celebration.

Eragon and Saphira both going through their respective rejections and then supporting eachother was wholesome. (especially when he decides to sleep beside Saphira instead of sleeping on Vrael's bed) I could not help but notice how Saphira "mothered" Eragon less in this book, as he truly grew into the man he was meant to be.

Nasuada tanking Surda's economy with magically manufactured frills and lace was hilarious.

I like how there is an uncanny-ness to the Elves here. They SEEM to look like the Elves from LoTR but they also seem off.

The homages to Tolkein: The Ra'zac being hooded figures who can cause fear and despair with their presence alone and them riding leather winged creatures, Morgothal being portrayed as a "flaming" god of the Dwarvish pantheon similar to Morgoth who tried imitating the "flame imperishable" in The Silmarillion and the "Beorns" or Bears as the Elves call it, a homage to Beorn the skin changer.

Let's look at Criston Cole:

Confesses to Alicent that he took Rhaenyra's maidenhood. Asks that he be given a merciful death.

Tries to kill himself out of shame after killing Joffrey Lonmouth.

Apologises to Alicent after he calls Rhaenyra a Cunt.

I am not counting beesbury as it was accidental

Daemon gets away with half the stuff he does without looking back because he is already priviledged. He is the King Consort. He's a dragonrider. Collateral damage is nothing new to him. And its funny how majority of the collateral damage he does is against the peasantry but people don't even bat an eye cause he "owns up to the stuff he does".

Criston Cole on the other hand can only cling to what remains of his honor to go forward. If he faces racist remarks while being hand of the king and lord commander of the kingsguard then imagine what he would've faced while merely being a knight?

For those less fortunate, sticking by your ideals and merit, even if you have sullied your honor is the only shield one can have to move forward. Cole has no ancestral seat to go back to. No dragon to ride. He bases his entire identity around knighthood and clings to what remains. And most of HIS collateral damage is against his "betters" or nobles. And people lose their minds about it.

So let me get this straight

Criston Cole, exhausted, emmaciated and weak, kills about 12+ enemies.

Asks for a 1v2 to spare the lives of his remaining men and get's shot down by arrows from a distance.

And Team Black is cheering?

They literally proved his point. They would rather shoot him from a distance like the cowards they are than duel him.

And the Best part?

They omitted the "I'll have no songs about how brave you died Kingmaker...." line!

So it makes that scene look like they shot him not because they thought he did not deserve a warrior's death, but because they would rather not face him head on.

He truly is the realm's greatest warrior, at the time of the dance.

And the fact that he wraps around Alicent's handkerchief (is that what it's called?) Around the handle of his sword as he prepares for his last stand. It cannot get more romantic than that.

And he DOES get remembered in the main series, by Jaime and Arianne Martell so it's a big fuck you to Blackcels.
