Apollo: hey uncle P! I heard what happened. with Polyphemus I just wanted to say I know-
Poseidon: you know nothing of what I’m going through
Apollo: oh yeah, you’re right I totally wouldn’t understand what it’s like to have a Greek soldier hurt one of my children only for no one to take my side. INCLUDING people I thought were allies.
Poseidon... This is about me siding with greece isnt it.
I've put a summary of the concept album which I've copied from the website under the cut
Melody Of War is a mythic concept album that reimagines the Trojan War through a deeply personal, character-driven lens - centered on Achilles, his complex relationship with Patroclus, and the immense heroic world that surrounds them. Blending ancient legend with modern music production, this two-our, three-act narrative spans their entire journey: from innocent boyhood on the shores of Phthia to the fires of war, the death of Achilles, and, at last, their reunion in the Underworld
like I get that people love the heroes of Greek mythology and The Odyssey is a classic and oh, yay, ‘wily Odysseus,’ ‘aren’t Achilles and Patroclus cute,’ but
[rambling tirade under the cut, you’ve been warned]
sometimes I feel really alone in absolutely hating every single Greek who was involved with the Trojan War in any capacity whatsoever. Sometimes some “cool it with the TSOA-type revisionism please, Achilles was a rapist” meta pops up on my dash, and that’s fine. But maybe I’m just not following the right people, because any time I come across a “poor Patroclus” -type post I explode with rage like
Patroclus? Patroclus? What about Hector? What about Astyanax and Andromache and POLYXENA and freaking CASSANDRA? Sometimes it just sets my teeth on edge that these Greek heroes have so many fans. Like, let’s ask Hecuba what she thinks of “clever Odysseus.” Go ahead. I’ll wait.
I know, I know. A lot of what I’m enraged about is standard guy-from-mythology behavior, what happened to Troy is standard spoils-of-war stuff, etc etc. But since the fuck when has that stopped the denizens of this site from being angry about anything? Where the fuck are my Hecuba stans? I know you’re out there. Hmu so I can follow you please.
Anyway. Pretty sure a lot of this rage comes from my having edited (ie watched 5,000 times) my theatre company’s gorgeous production of The Trojan Women, which starred one of my close friends as Hecuba (she was amazing. AMAZING. She was 17 and playing a grandmother with 50-odd kids and she NAILED IT) but still. Where are my dragons people who loathe Odysseus and Co. as much as I do?
