USBC QUEENS 2021 - What. A. Ride! 🎳 WARNING - LONG POST AHEAD. • I can’t deny that bowling took a back seat when COVID hit and I didn’t miss it much when it shut down. But still, I decided to bowl Queens. This wasn’t an easy decision at all, I needed to make sure I was ready, especially since I hadn’t been bowling consistently for almost a year. But I decided to just sign up and do it. If not now, then when? • Big shout out to my mom and Bobby for being behind me 100%. You couldn’t watch, but having you there gave me confidence. To Uncle Mike at Bel Mateo Bowl for letting me practice whenever I possibly could, for giving me the space to best prepare myself, for giving me the opportunity to become the best. To Ivan and Scott at Bowlers Experience for drilling my bowling balls and making sure I had the best equipment for the week. To Raymond and Josh at Bay Area Pro Shop for helping me in the moment and during my practice sessions at Bel. • Day 1, I went -20 which could’ve been much worse considering I shot 145. Lol. Day 2, I went -4 which put me at -24 overall and in 68th which was just outside the cut. Day 3, I knew I needed a bigger day. Went 214-200-188 and finally took a risk and made a jump left to shoot 268. We then made the turn and I shot 170 to finish at +16 and in 58th place after my squad. The cut ended up being even and I finished in 57th place, making my first Queens cut. Hit my first goal - next goal was to win a match. Well... I lost my first match. Then I won my next match in the elimination bracket. Unfortunately, my wrist/finger couldn’t handle it and I ended up losing my last match, taking me out of the tournament. • I learned a lot this week. About the sport. About myself. About many things. And for that I’m extremely grateful. Thank you everyone who supported me through the journey, who reached out and messaged me after every set, every match, every day.
