Attention Techblr, Theatre Nerds and Other People that Appreciate the Arts

TL:DR The arts programs at my high school are getting cut and a very important teacher is getting laid off and we need your help to keep her

So yesterday many other students and I were informed that our beloved choir teacher received an involuntary transfer notice due to lower enrollment and budget constraints.

As many of you know there is a major lack of funding for the arts programs throughout many schools in the country and she might as well be called the core of the performing arts at our school. Not only is she the choir teacher, but she is also the Piano, Guitar, AP Music Theory, and IB Music Theory teacher, as well as the vocal and pit orchestra director.

Even though you have never had her as a teacher yourself she has had a huge impact on the drama club, from helping with vocals, to being the pit orchestra director, to even performing onstage as Chef Louis in an actor's absence. (It’s a long story).

Losing her would literally mean losing half of our schools music department as well as half the drama department and will set these programs back years.

One of my friends started a petition to try to keep her and I am asking you all to please share it and possibly consider signing it. We would not be the same program without her.

I am writing this to try and reach as many people as I can. Please, even though you do not know who this teacher is please reblog this. It would mean the world to me, our teacher, and the other members of the school’s community. By doing this you will help show people that the arts is an important part of education. No matter what happens we are not giving up without our voices being heard.

If you had told me my freshman year of high school that in college I would be looking into doing stage crew for 2 of many local theaters in my area and looking at doing stage and technical crew as an actual professional career I would have laughed at you and told you you were crazy
