i think people (ahem twitter) dont realize how weird it is to use a tweet from techno and say he's lesbiphobic forever because of it. the only reason most people care about that tweet was because it was recorded online and we got to see it— i'm telling you, people. are. nuanced. especially. as they are. growing up. that tweet was made YEARS ago. i promise you, all of us right now, have done stuff years ago that we would regret today. and the only reason why that those things aren't addressed was because it was never recorded online or on footage. but “i've changed” you argue!— that's THE POINT, TWITTER. THAT'S THE POINT. we change but we don't actively search for posts or tweets we've made in the past to delete them after we change because, quite frankly, we don't need to! we shouldn't automatically think “oh someone is going to use my past against me” immediately when we change opinions on things.
do you see how weird it is now? i don't get why people are so desperate to cling the lesbiphobic title onto techno's name. you're forcing the prejuduce to stay onto techno when we didn't want that in the first place.
i think people forget that we are all nuanced. look up from your screen and look at your parents, your siblings, your irl friends— a lot of them can be prejuduced. a lot of them can say really bad jokes. this behavior is not something that occurs at the snap of a finger— it's something conditioned onto us growing up. we were exposed to biased media for so long, and to reverse that prejudice, it takes so much time and effort.
knowing that, if you're on twt, please reevaluate your views on techno or on cc's in general. your aggressive “wokeness” lately has originated from enjoying the thrill of the idea that you're better than other people. that's all that it is, really— our obsession with looking better than other people. but what good does that do when you don't bother understanding that everything isn't black and white? people are such complex beings and as much as we want people to be better, twt culture has turned into thirsty hounds aggressively asking people to apologize and be better when all that does is risk for a performative apology from the person.
and sometimes, we don't even need an apology, especially when it comes to words said by cc's YEARS AGO. the fact that techno was willing to get on this mcc that is for a CHARITY should speak volumes. the fact that techno has not made a lesbiphobic joke years later should speak volumes. because people change— please look at your own selves and your own family and friends as an example.
there are instances, of course, where we do need cc's to address things, but please stop dehumanizing cc's when they make a mistake. approach them kindly. be more sympathetic. anger can be such a natural reaction to a lot of these things, which is valid, but everlasting anger will not settle any disputes. kindness works, y'all, i promise you that.
tldr: we are all nuanced, we are not the epitome of knowledge. you are not better than any other cc. this world's system is so unbelievably biased and we were all conditioned to follow it, so acting like you've done nothing wrong when a cc fucks up is so unbelievably hypocritical. please calm down is what i'm saying and please think more critically when it comes to discourse like this bc istg a lot of this can be resolved if people just thought critically about discourse and not just follow what the crowds are saying (and also!! BE NICE PEOPLE. PERIOD.)
(this is more of a ramble but if i said anything wrong, feel free to correct me!!)
