ANSWER: to yesterday’s #teethtuesday post - Juvenile Collard Peccary or javelina, Pecari tajacu. Here are some of mine with various patinas and age. Previously I’ve posted this juvenile with double upper tusks. #bonelustpersonalcollection _ Although the Peccary, AKA Javelina, may appear somewhat pig-like externally, they actually belong to their own family, Tayassuidae. The name javelina is Spanish and comes from their long, sharp, javelin-like canines. Peccaries use these sharp tusks to fight off predators. _ The collared peccary is a widespread creature found throughout much of the tropical and subtropical Americas, ranging from the Southwestern United States to northern Argentina in South America. _ Sorry NFS #bonelustpersonalcollection #peccaryskull #Javelinaskull https://www.instagram.com/p/CK5FjUTAdu0/?igshid=1gry4us601lm9
