Claire had met the Children of Atom once before, back in the Commonwealth. Piper had told her their name, after the two had killed the group in a fight that the Children started immediately.

This group scared her too, but in a different way. They weren’t outright hostile, but they were militant, ready to wipe out Far Harbor for simply being there, where they had always been. Claire did notice that there were plenty not like the rest of the group. They didn’t want this fight, either wanting to simply co-exist, or maybe even leave the Children, but fearing the consequences.

So Claire did what she had to do there, lie to Richter about killing a deserter, lie to the Confessor about a traitor, giving her time to flee, and helping out some of those who weren’t happy about the militant state of the group. After that, Claire, Curie and Nick were almost completely done with them.
