White Base travels to Side 6, docking at Baldur Bay for repairs after their battle with the Camel Patrol Squadron.

Amuro takes some leave in the colony, and by pure chance reunites with his father, Tem Ray, who went missing during the attack at Side 7. Tem has suffered oxygen depravation from his time adrift in space, and his personality has become manic.

Later, when Amuro gets caught in the rain, he takes shelter at a house beside a lake. There, he meets a mysterious young woman who he feels an immediate connection with. She is Lalah Sune, the Flanagan Institute's star pupil.

Amuro meets Lalah again when his buggy gets stuck in some mud. This time, she is in the company of Char Aznable, who Amuro instantly recognizes, although they have just met. Despite the fact that Amuro is an enemy, Char takes the time to tow his car back onto the road. Amuro thanks Char for his help, and quickly leaves.

The Deikun & Ray Family Portrait

The Gundam Origin family portraits for the Deikun family and Ray family have so many details well thought out by Yasuhiko sensei.

The Deikun portrait is painted in warm colors with the family sitting in and surrounded by luxurious furniture, displaying the happier times and their status as the initial ruling family of Side 3 (Zeon).

As the Deikun patriarch, Zeon stands behind his wife and children, hovering over them with his hands on the couch they are sitting on, showing the distance between him and his family he loves and does show moments of affection for because of the Spacenoid ideology and politics he zealously prioritized.

Meanwhile Astraia has no interest in her lover’s work and is thus much freer to be pay more attention and care to their beloved children who sit with her on the couch.

Sayla as the youngest child and only daughter is huddled close to her mother and holding her beloved pet cat, but Char does not join them instead sitting rigged and upright because he wants to act the proper image as the eldest Deikun son.

The Ray family in contrast is painted in cooler colors with the parents sitting in separate chairs with their son standing in the middle reflecting the strained familial relationship that eventually culminates in a permanent separation later in their lives.

Tem sits behind his wife and son, showing the distance between them, because while his job as a chief engineer for the Earth Federation military has provided his family a comfortable lifestyle, his workaholic personality estranged him from the son he cares for but neglects and a failed marriage with his wife.

Kamaria sits at the front and holds Amuro close to her. As his mother, she is much more openly affectionate to him than her husband but like Tem she prioritizes her desires over the son she very much loves but cannot fully understand.

Amuro stands closer to his mother who holds him by the shoulder but he is positioned with a neutral expression to stand between his smiling parents to symbolize that he is the child of a separated couple.
