He watched as she made her way into the bathroom and leaned against the sink, the door slamming closed behind her.

14. What's something you've always wanted to do but maybe been scared to do?

- This is gonna sound small and stupid to some (and that's fine!) but honestly? Drive! I'm so anxious and scared about driving bc everyone in my immediate family has been involved in varying degrees of accidents from 'that's annoying' to 'High Alarm'. I've never been in one, but I've been on my learners for YEARS (done loads of driving but I'm a scared little chihuahua)

24. What's one thing you're proud of yourself for?

- After considerable hard work and an incredible saving opportunity (which was also hard work), my partner and I bought a house! The first day in the house, we put nails in the wall and hung things 😭💕

38. Fave song at the moment?

- One song is Hard. Hhh maybe the Dead South's cover of People are Strange, I'm bopping to that one multiple times a day

“Mmm, you smell delicious, Em.” She winked at you as she took a sip from her mug, swaying her hips as you walked backwards into the bedroom. Sitting in the reading chair near the window, she gently sat in your lap, slinking one arm around your neck to hold herself steady and using the other to hold her coffee. You shared a sweet kiss, the rich scent of her expensive conditioner mixing with the aroma of her coffee as it filtered to your nose.

“Hmm, looks like you have no free hands, Agent Prentiss,” you started, a smirk growing on your lips. “I suppose that means I get to eat this all by myself.”

She whined as she watched you pull a bite into your mouth. “Well then I guess I can get up,” she started, unwinding her arm to grab the bowl sitting in her lap.

“Nuh, uh,” you hummed as you tightened your arm around her waist, pulling her back into your lap. “How about this?” Using your free hand, you grabbed the spoon and reached some berries up to her mouth to take. You sat together for a while, sharing bites of her breakfast, giggling when the bowl would tip precariously to one side or another.

Summary:  Emily Prentiss x Fem!Reader. Seeing Emily with your daughter would always be enough, but maybe it’s okay to allow yourself to want more. Fluff with a few angsty thoughts<3 

Word Count: 1.2k

A/N: I haven’t been able to produce any writing I’ve liked recently but somehow tonight I found this half written and got motivation to finish it (maybe I do my best work exhausted, or maybe I’m just too delirious to hate it). Anyway, I hope you enjoy. I hit 950 followers today so thank you all so much<3 

You’re pulled away from your conversation with JJ by your daughter’s laughter filling the garden. Kara hangs off of Emily’s back as they dance. Both of them with huge smiles on their faces and the sight causes your heart to warm.

“She’s so good with Kara.” JJ comments.

“Yeah,” You sigh wistfully, your heart aching in a way that you’d long since gotten used to. Emily was amazing with your daughter, and Kara loved her so much. It made you want things you couldn’t have.

“I don’t understand why you won’t just ask her out. Emily adores the both of you.” JJ says with a roll of her eyes.

“It’s not that easy-”

JJ groans, “You and Archie have been divorced since Kara was a toddler, she’s now seven. You can’t honestly tell me you don’t see the way Emily looks at you.”

You shrug lightly. “Everything’s good. Why mess with it?”

You were content with seeing Emily most days, enjoying the time she spent with you and Kara. The moments with her were enough. You weren’t going to risk what you had because Emily potentially returned your feelings.

You watch as Emily puts Kara down on the floor before taking her hand and spinning her around the dance floor. Your daughter's giggles are rich and happy and it’s enough.

Having this was more than enough.

“Why settle for good when it could be great?” JJ asks kindly. She nods her head towards the dance floor, “Go dance with your family. Stop ignoring what you want.”

You don’t argue, choosing to follow the thumping of your heart instead of fighting against it.

Emily’s the first to see you approaching, her eyes brighten, and her smile somehow grows. It’s blinding. She spins Kara around so she can see you.

“Mummy!” Kara grins, dropping Emily’s hand before running over and throwing herself into your arms. “Emily and me were dancing and she’s really, really good.”  

You laugh at your daughter's excitement, “I saw. Is she better than Uncle Derek?”

Kara considers it. Her face scrunched up in thought. She signals for you to come closer and you lower your head to allow her to whisper loudly into your ear. “No, but don’t tell Emily or she’ll be upset.”  

“My lips are sealed.” You say, leaning back but keeping Kara in your arms as you pretend to zip your lips closed.

“Good.” Kara nods just as Emily joins the two of you. She stands close enough that her arm brushes yours as she ruffles Kara’s hair, igniting a whine from her. “Emily!” She protests.

“Sorry.” She grins, not even the slightest bit apologetic.

You’d given up correcting Kara on calling Emily ‘Auntie Emily’ a long time ago. You didn’t understand why she refused when every other team member was Auntie or Uncle. Emily found it funny and when you complained about it, she made a comment about how Kara was just as stubborn as her mother.

Emily turns to look at you, studying your face and frowning slightly when she sees your wistful expression. “Everything okay?”

“Yes.” You smile. “Everything’s perfect.”

Emily studies you for a moment longer as an unsure smile spreads across her lips.

Kara wiggles in your arms prompting you to look away from Emily and back to your daughter.

“Uncle Spencer said he had more magic to show me, can I go see?” Kara asks excitedly.

Emily mock gasps before you can respond, “Are you leaving me for magic?”

“You can dance with Mummy.” Kara states and your whole body tingles at the prospect.

“Go on, go find Uncle Spencer.” You say, stepping back from your daughter and smiling at the excited giggle she releases. You watch her until she’s reached Reid and then turn to Emily.

“Guess you’re stuck with me.” You smirk, and Emily dramatically rolls her eyes.

“Oh, how will I cope?”

You laugh, allowing Emily to take one of your hands and pull you in close. Her other hand settles onto your waist as the two of you fall into the rhythm of the music.

Your heart beats uncontrollably, and you rest your head on Emily’s shoulder to hide the emotions flickering across your face.

“What’s wrong?” Emily asks quietly, her breath blowing against your hair as the two of you dance.

“Nothing, really. I’m happy.”

She stills, moving her head back to prompt you to lift yours. Her brows are slightly furrowed, “Yeah?” She asks.

“Yes. I’ve got everything I could ever need.”

She stares deeply into your eyes, her voice coming out in a hoarse whisper. “Everything?”

You swallow roughly, forbidden tears filling your eyes as you softly shake your head. “Emily,” You croak.

She pulls you in closer, her hand leaving yours to come up and cup your cheek and causing your breath to catch. The garden’s full of noise and people but in that moment everything else melts away and the only thing you're conscious of is her.

“Let me take you out for dinner,” Emily says, eyes soft and full of love.

And this is everything you’ve ever wanted but it feels greedy to take it.

Her fingers caress your cheek prompting your eyes to fall close. You release a deep sigh.

“Please.” She begs.

And why run from this? Why run from happiness?

“Yes.” You open your eyes, a hesitant smile on your lips.

Emily breathes a sigh of relief, “Good because honestly, I don’t know what I would have done if you’d have said no.”

You chuckle, leaning into the hand that brushes your cheek. “Dance with me?”

“Of course.” Emily smiles, her hand drops from your face to join the other on your waist. She pulls you in close as your hands slide up around her neck, and you rest your forehead against hers. The two of you move slowly to the music.

“I love you, Emily.” You sigh, a watery smile spreading across your face.

She leans back but doesn’t stop swaying to the music, just making sure to meet your eyes. She smiles softly. “I love you too.”

You release a wet laugh, and she presses a kiss on your forehead. The two of you dance together for a while, not talking, just enjoying the feeling of holding one another.

It’s broken when you hear the thumping of familiar footsteps. “Watch out.” You mummer, moments before Kara runs into you and Emily, wrapping her arms around you both and erupting a noise of surprise from Emily.

You two pull away slightly to stare at the girl that looks up at you both with puzzlement. “Emily, why aren’t you dancing with mummy?”

“I am?” Emily frowns in confusion.

Kara huffs, “No you’re not. You aren’t really moving, that's not dancing. I told mummy you were a good dancer but you haven’t spun her around once!”

You arch a brow, looking from your daughter to Emily in amusement.

She rolls her eyes playfully, dramatically muttering. “I’m a great dancer. I’ll show you.”

Kara steps back with an excited grin on her face as Emily takes your hand and spins you around gracefully. You laugh as you spin back into her arms.

“That’s much better,” Kara says with satisfaction. “Isn’t she good, mommy?”

Your eyes don’t leave Emily’s as you respond, an affectionate smile brightening up your face. “The best.”

Emily’s face softens and Kara giggles from beside you. Your heart has never felt fuller, and from the way Emily looks at you, you’re pretty sure she feels the exact same way.
