There was a hard lost for the Márquez family…
They were doing their best to cope with it. They had just lost Abuelo. Abuela had just lost her husband. Cole and Nico losing their father. And Dora, Daisy, Diego, Alicia, Isabella, and Guillermo losing their grandfather. It was a bit harder for the older grandkids sense they had actually known him a bit longer than the twins.
Dora never took losing people well. It was hard going back to school, even though she had a few days off after school for the funeral. She seemed to be a bit more quiet. Becky’s bullying hadn’t seemed to effect her as much. Which made Becky feel somewhat upset… and a bit guilty.
-
The group- or some of them- sat at a lunch table together. Naiya, Emma, Alana, Kate, Nelly, Pablo, and Dora.
They were all worried about her. Dora quietly ate her lunch, her head leaned on Naiya’s shoulder as she quietly ate her empanada.
“You holding on okay?” Pablo asked softly. Dora looked up with a small smile and a nod. The smile faded when the group heard familiar voices.
“If it isn’t the group of weirdos. The full pack isn’t here, thankfully!” Becky said with a grin. Dora sat up. By now she could tell that Becky did feel a bit bad. Her remarks were less rude and she’d make Riley and Kiley tone it down if they got to harsh. So she acted like she wasn’t offended or cared, because at the moment, Becky didn’t really mean anything.
“Back off Becky.” Nelly said with furrowed eyebrows.
“Yeah, Dora isn’t in the mood and neither are we.” she groaned.
“Awww, is she gonna cry? Poor poor baby.” Riley teased, faking whining.
“It’s been a month already, and she’s still crying about her little abuelo?” Kiley said and they all went quiet. Becky even stopped smiling, as Dora’s expression darkened.
“That’s crossing a line!!” Naiya said in anger
“What’s your problem??!” Alana said standing up.
“Kiley… what’s wrong with you?? That’s way too far!!!” Becky yelled angrily, grabbing her arm and pulling her off. “Let’s go, both of you.”
Dora stood up and walked off to the bathroom. Naiya chased after her.
-
It was almost like she disappeared, she didn’t tell anyone she was leaving, she must’ve really wanted to be alone. Because Diego and Sabrina didn’t know where she was. And she left Backpack and Map with Nelly.
Naiya and Emma walked home with Diego, Sabrina, Alicia, Isabella and Guillermo. The twins were aware of the situation and worried about their older sister.
Emma lived across the street. She wished them good luck on finding Dora as the others went to Dora’s place.
“So she just left? Didn’t say anything??” Elena asked worriedly.
“Yeah…. But I can’t find her phone anywhere. So she must’ve brought it with her, that’s good news.” Naiya said hopefully.
“Is Dora gonna be okay?” Isabella and Guillermo asked worriedly in unison.
“We’ll find her, don’t worry.” Alicia said as she guided her younger cousins to their room so she could comfort them.
“Map, can you find where Dora is—” Diego started but was cut off by Naiya.
“No need. She’s at the beach. I just checked.” She said in relief.
“Knowing her, she’s probably at sea. It’s one of her comfort places.” Sabrina noted softly.
“Do you have a way of contacting her?” Cole asked.
“Yeah… if she doesn’t answer, I can ask map where she is exactly sense I have my mermaid necklace. I’ll let my parents know that I’ll be at your place Señor Márquez.” she said as she also pulled up her text messages and searched the name ‘Marianna’.
-
Dora was walking on the shore of the beach. The ocean breeze calming her down.
She herself felt a bit bad for running off, but she did feel better. She was somehow able to stop by her house to pick up her beach bag and swiftly leave without being noticed. Her socks, shoes, legs warmers, and phone sat in the bag.
She was wearing her mermaid necklace too. If she did wanna go out at sea, she could bring it. With the way magic works, it would somehow become water proof. She left her parents messages on read so they would at least know she had it. Naiya had her location anyway.
“Hey Dora!” A familiar voice spoke up, bubbly as always. Dora turned to see Marianna the mermaid. She had been learning how to walk, and was getting pretty good.
“Marianna! Hola,” she managed a smile as she ran over to Marianna and they shared a small hug.
“Naiya texted me, so I thought I’d find you up here.” The mermaid chuckled, but then went a bit serious. “Wanna talk?” she said earning a nod from Dora
-
They had went to sea. Dora explained what had been happening and what happened at school. Marianna told Naiya she was with Dora, so her family could be a little less worried.
“Hey, I gotta stop by to see Val. I promised her a kelp sandwich.” Marianna chuckled. “Wanna come with?” She said as Dora twisted in the water.
“Sure, and it’ll be nice to see Val.” She smiled.
-
They had stopped by Val’s garden. Dora set her bag down as she swam over with Marianna.
“Marianna! Oh! And Dora, it’s so nice to see you!” she said wrapping a tentacle around each of them. They both giggled as Marianna gave Val her kelp sandwich.
She let go of Marianna but kept around her tentacle around Dora. Even Val could see how tired she looked. “¿Que pasa, Dora?” she asked.
Marianna explained for Dora, who giggling for some reason as she tried to squirm away.
“Val… what are you doing??” she asked carefully, as Dora got a bit flustered.
“Cheering her up! I remember a certain someone being ticklish. And she desperately needs to be cheered up. Maybe this can answer your question of humans being ticklish Marianna?” she chuckled as Dora covered her mouth.
Marianna’s eyes lit up and she smiled.
“D, your ticklish?” she laughed as Dora’s face heated up in embarrassment.
“Vahahahal!!! I’m fihihihine, I prohohohohmise!!” she giggled trying to pry the tentacle off.
“Really? You didn’t seem that fine earlier according to Marianna. And your giggling and smiling just how you used too!” she teased as another tentacle gently wiggled on her neck.
“I think… you enjoy it!” she said getting Dora flustered.
Dora squealed as she tried pushing the playful tentacle off. But any time she tried, it just went to the other side of her neck.
Marianna swam closer. “Hey Dora… did you know that mermaid tails can be ticklish? This seems like the perfect time to test yours!” she said grabbing onto Dora’s tail as she gently tickled where the back of her knees would be.
“eek!- Mariahahahahhana!!!” It was super bad. Dora was sensitive in general, she was squirming even more, weakly banging on Val’s arm in a weak attempt to get it off.
A tentacle travels to help Marianna with prodding at the explorer’s tail. Poor Dora was way to sensitive for this.
“This is too cute! You never told me you could be so adorable D!” Marianna pouted as her hand crawled all over Dora’s tail.
Dora’s face only heated more, she could even speak.
She probably would’ve been tearing up if it weren’t for the fact they were underwater.
Val finally let go of Dora. She chuckled when Dora had to pull her tail away from Marianna. Marianna pouted as Dora caught her hugs.
“I’m gonna be much more careful next time I take hugs from an octopus.” Dora pouted hugging her tail to her chest. She couldn’t help but smile a little though. “But it did make me feel better, thanks Val. You to Marianna.” she said softly.
“See? All better!!” she said squeezing Dora’s side one more time.
Marianna swam over to playfully tackle Dora into a hug. “Yup!’ You still look like you need a little cheering up.” she grinned a bit hopefully and mischievously. Dora immediately pulled away.
“Don’t you dare!!” she said swimming back slowly as Marianna wiggled her fingers. Dora swam off like lighting.
“Bye Val!” she giggled as she went to chase Dora.
