Oh, also I want to know more about Terebinthian pirates.
(Reep thought they should’ve chased them down & hanged them. I want to know Caspian’s reasons they didn’t... But I also want to know about the pirates in general, because pirate stories are Cool.)
Phillip of Arne ✦ 26 ✦ Human ✦ Terebinthian ✦ FC: ARMIE HAMMER
Synopsis:
There is the saying of ‘the heir and the spare’, and while it rings true that all monarchies must have the guarantee that their rule is secure in two sons, there is perhaps a question of how such a second son will turn out. For Phillip, however, there is little question as to who he is, and his part in the Terebinthian government. He is more than a spare, for he is his brother’s confidant, ambassador, and in charge of relations with countries abroad. It is his gift, and he uses it wisely. After all, King Eodric depends on Phillip to represent Terebinthia in the best light.
Although it could be said that Prince Phillip is a personable young man, there is a side to him which should not be tested. He is a soldier, a politician, a man of property and honor, and is the son of the late king. He is gentle and kind, but would not be one to cross in battle as there is a side to him which is intense, ruthless, and driven. He is a man of great conviction, and that conviction will lead him in whatever direction he sees is in line with his conscience.
That being said, he has been chosen to work out trade agreements and general alliances with Narnia and Archenland, for his ability of solving things lends him the best choice. Phillip is the kind of man who has a wisdom beyond his years, and it is a great credit to both him and his country.
Relationships:
Eodric, King of Terebinthia: older brother. Although they were raised for two very different tasks, Phillip looks up to Eodric with great admiration. He knows that Eodric is the one who bears the greatest burden, and does his best to lift that burden from him where he can, be it in foreign relations, or handling smaller things in government. They are very close.
Duchess Calliope of Valka: older sister. Calliope is the one who Phillip goes to for advice more often than not. She is the charm of the trio of siblings, who keeps things very calm politically, for while her brothers can occasionally be brash, she is the soothing balm. Phillip truly appreciates her, and does his best to be the little brother she needs.
Ambassador Vladi: The favorite uncle... literally. Vladi is his fathers brother, the previous Duke of Arne, and is the closest advisor to King Eodric. With their parents gone, Vladi has stepped into the role of parental figure. He is Phillips Mentor before he is anything else, however, for he is the one who made Phillip the man he is today, and it shows.
TEREBINTHIA is a sovereign island-kingdom in the Great Eastern Ocean, in the exterior of the Bight of Calormen, the closest island to it being the island of Galma.
It is a large island, boasting of many natural resources, which makes it capable of self-sufficiency. Its infrastructure is strong, the society holding fast to old traditions and laws, which have kept it safe from internal conflict. To protect themselves from invasion and war, they have built the strongest navy of any kingdom, becoming rulers of the seas, as it is their first line of defense. They are the best of watermen, and before the White Witch, they made great riches off of trade, as they were the most informed merchants.
Terebinthia began as a settlement which came from a different world. Refugees of war in a land far off who sought a New World, where they could build lives without so much trouble. However, it wasn’t the New World they found after being blown off course upon the seas of their original world, it was an island, inhabited by sirens and merfolk, who told the pilgrims from far off that they were no longer in the world they began in, and that the beautiful isle they were now upon was called “Terebinthia”.
Trusting their words, and understanding that they had found a better place than they had hoped for to escape from the persecution of their lands, they set up the colony of Terebinthia under new human law, and a Lord was elected as overseer. In time, this Lord became King of Terebinthia, and his sons ruled after him. It did not take long for Terebinthia to make contact with Narnia and Archenland, a shipwreck of a merchant ship from Galma upon the islands shores informing the King that there was much more to this world than their island, and as such a group of representatives was sent from Terebinthia to Narnia, Galma, and Archenland, establishing trades and foreign relations with them.
When the Winter came, and Jadis took over Narnia and remained in threat to Archeland, Terebinthia did what they could to help the Narnian refugees which came their way. Realizing, however, that Narnia was now a threat with Jadis to both Galma and Terebinthia, Terebinthia strengthened its Navy beyond what would necessarily be needed. And it was not just the White Witch that caused a threat, but with the loss of Narnia as their ally, and Archenland constantly on guard, Calormen seemed much larger and looming to Terebinthias trade routes, stealing ships from the seas filled with cargo from the various isles further to the East.
And so, Terebinthia struck back, causing a rift between Calormen and Terebinthia which persists to now, as Calormen did not forgive, and Terebinthia does not regret.
As the Winter went on, Terebinthia became isolated within their country. Galma had sided with the Witch, Archenland became more and more concerned about possible invasion, and Terebinthia could only watch on baited breath to see what would become of the rest of the world while preparing for its own defense should it be required.
Spring could not have come a moment sooner, but being so used to its own isolation, it was not until the old king died and his son took his place that things began to change for Terebinthia. King Eodric wanted to once again reach out to the rest of the world, and with a strong Narnia now back in existence, it was not a hard thing to secure the beginnings of negotiations with such a strong ally.
And given the current political atmosphere, King Eodric believes it may be sorely needed in times to come.
A/N: Terebinthias culture is based off mostly English culture, given that the original colonists were British, and trying to go to the Americas in the 16th Century. There is a parliament of sorts in Terebinthia, which acts as the lawmaking body, though the King has the final decision on which laws will be adopted.
Prince Jost (Reserved) I Age- 9 I Species- Son of Adam I Allegiance- Aslan/Terebinthia
FC: Isaac Hempstead
Bio: Prince Jost is the Crown Prince of Terebinthia and the only son of King Drynn and Queen Isolde.
From an early age, he received an education quite befitting of a future King. While he didn’t particularly care for the semantics of his country’s history, or the lessons of Astronomy (Which he felt was exceedingly frivolous and dull), when it pertained to politics or weapons training, Jost flourished. Well, when he bothered to show up for his lessons that is.
Much to his parents’ exasperation, Jost is a restless boy who seems to have a habit of getting himself into the most unusual situations. Thankfully, he has a knack for charming his way out of them as well.
Though an association with him tends to require a great deal of patience, the rewards far outweigh the headaches. Upon earning his friendship, he proves to be a fierce and loyal companion.
The Mistico is an old ship once owned by the Terebinthian Empire.
There is an old legend that states The Mistico was on a voyage from Archenland back to Terebinthia when the ship hit unruly weather. The Mistico is said to have had to surf against on a rogue wave in order to avoid capsizing. The passengers, however, weren't as lucky.
Some of the passengers on deck were thrown overboard when they were hit by waves.
The ship lost power, and the food quickly went bad. The remaining passengers and crew were left to face harsh, cold nights and very hot days.
No one knows for sure what happened to those passengers. Some say they fell victim to the green mist. Some say they all went mad and abandoned ship.
The Mistico became a ghost ship, floating the high seas for many years, until it came to rest on an old Terebinthian beach.
Since then, the stern of the ship has since torn apart and sunk in the waters near the bow.
Many are afraid to go near the remains of The Mistico, believing it to be haunted with the spirits of it's last passengers and crew.
To this day, it's bow remains on one of Terebinthia's many great beaches.
What beach, you may ask?
Well, you'll just have to go out there and explore them for yourself and see!
