I imagine at first Dream is kind of like a naive kid, with lots of spirit, and then second he's gotten way older and wiser, but still has a strong spirit and then I know Empireverse isn't canon but I imagine Dream would just be tired of fighting, kind of worn out out but has to continue for the sake of his empire.
