The Daedra walked in a place outside worlds, not in Nirn, nor Oblivion, nor even the Void. Handsomely dressed, his hair was as red as dragonfire, his eyes twin golden stars, windows into the entity that longed for the slightest excuse to shred the form of flesh which clothed him. Another somewhat messy take on Daggerfall!Sheo that started as a warm-up and got out of hand haha. I wonder if perhaps red is his natural hair color, and it only turns white when the Greymarch approaches?

At Battle’s End

A short story about the Miracle of Peace, and a battle that never ended until it did.

The Battle had come to an end. Jeon stood at the front of the line, spear and shield in his hand, and listened to the jangle of chain and plate as his liegeman paraded about in front of him. His shield was battered, his spear was broken. He could feel the blood still pouring from his breast, where a witch-knight’s blade had pierced it. Nonetheless, he stood resolutely alongside the rest of his comrades and listened.

“My brethren in arms!-” Cried his liege, the Prince of Northmoor.

“Bretons or Imperials, baymen or northmen- It matters not anymore what name you answer to, or what flag you once flew. Tonight you are brave soldiers of the crown of Northmoor!” He paused to hear the cheers of his men, but Jeon heard only the screams and lamentations echoing from the raging inferno that burned at their backs. The prince’s face, illuminated by the green light of the fire, was young and handsome. He was dead- The crows were pecking at the flesh that still clung to his cheekbones, and Jeon found himself struggling to recall the man’s name.

“The foulsome orcs of Orsinium have scoured the land- They have conquered and burnt every fiefdom from Dunlain to Camlorn, conquered it in the name of their unholy god. They have crushed and driven the men of Evermore, and the Emperor’s Legions. They have killed, and maimed, and struck fear in the hearts of men!” 

And at this, a discordant cheer arose, and with that the battle began. Sir Jeon lowered his lance and beat his breastplate, spurred his horse into a charge. The flag of Daggerfall, tattered and drenched with blood, flew at his back; the screams of dead men filled his vision and clawed at him as he made impact. His horse’s squeals joined them in the assault as it fell away beneath him, and he fell down among the dead words and deeds who he had been trampling seconds or minutes or hours or months or years earlier. 

He hit the ground with a crack and snapped his neck in a single instant, twitching erratically in death and then slumping into the dirt. He erupted into a coughing fit, reached up and wiped the blood from his mouth. The battle was about to begin; he could see the banners of Orsinium and Wayrest dancing about on the horizon as the soldiery rallied beneath them. 

“Come on, up you go,” Jeon said, holding out a hand. He took it and helped himself to his feet. “You’re wine-drunk, and the men are waiting on you for a speech. I hope you thought up a good one, too- The troops are antsy, whispering some nonsense about how we’ve been cursed to fight forever. Gods help us all if they lose hope.”

Jeon stared back at himself, momentarily confused, and then shook his head and rubbed his eyes. “Y-yes, of course.” He said, suddenly remembering. “Help me onto my horse.”

And when the Duke was horsed and ready, he rode out onto the field of battle, circling to avoid the still-burning corpses of his comrades and lovers. As the men looked on, he began to speak: 

“My brethren in arms!-” He cried valiantly. 

“Bretons or Orsimer, baymen or rivermen- It matters not anymore what name you answer to, or what flag you flew. Tonight you are brave soldiers of the Wayrest Alliance!” He paused to hear the cheers of his men, and he waited, and nothing came. Then battle began, and he turned and leveled his lance. The great armies converged on a field of death and slew themselves again and again and again.

And at Battle’s end, when the peace had been signed, and the soldiers had all gone home, Jeon returned to the village of his birth to tell his mother and his father the news of his death, and to bury himself in the fields of Kynaree.

Ah yes, the great and powerful king of worms, lord of all necromancers, and soon to be god doesn’t know his own goal. Sure Mannimarco, whatever you say, lol.

Honestly the more I learn about Tiber Septim/Talos, the more I actually think the Empire is objectively right to turn their backs on him -- the Thalmor actually did everyone a favor there, odd as it sounds.

If you listen to the Nords who fanboy over Talos, he’s the very avatar of Incorruptible Pure Pureness, the Absolute Apex of Nordiness.

But while there’s two differing accounts of his life, the one considered a heresy only paints him as... marginally worse than the other (which is still pretty bad). Considering that the most likely truth is somewhat less than the Orthodox version pushed by the Empire, I think it’s safe to say we can lean on the account provided by The Arcturian Heresy, and even that may not be pushing things far enough.

He cavorted with violent racists and particularly oppressive imperialists, and regularly betrayed people he’d sworn to aid or defend. 

He forced his mistresses to have abortions done against their will so that his son would inherit everything. One of those mistresses was Barenziah (yes, THAT Barenziah). When Barenziah refused, Tiber Septim pretended to relent and then instructed her healer to induce an abortion behind her back, most likely via slow-acting poison as it would be the easiest way to do it on the sly. Barenziah completely justifiably stormed out of the Imperial City shortly afterwards.

He also betrayed both of his mentors and closest advisors by ripping out their souls and using them to power a bit of Doomsday Tech he was given by Vivec as a bribe in exchange for Morrowind joining the empire willingly and not having every last Dark Elf butchered. He then promptly used that Doomsday Tech to butcher his way through the Summerset Isles instead. Soul trapping Ysmir Wulfharth and Zurin Arctus ended up creating the Underking, the villain of TES2: Daggerfall. Nice job breaking it “hero”.

And not that anyone has really played it or generally remembers that it exists, but the villain of Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard? Racist and oppressive fat bastard by the name of Amiel Richton? Handpicked by Tiber Septim to be governor of Stros M’kai. And he’s doubtless far from the only such example placed by Tiber Septim in such a position, given what else we know about him.

Tiber Septim is not a hero. He’s not even a mixed figure of both good and bad. He was a human-supremacist who by and large didn’t care for other races except for what he could get out of them, ground the innocent under his heel, instated abusers and oppressors as territorial governors, broke oaths, lied, cheated, manipulated, and massacred, and established his empire by being a terrible excuse for a human being in ANY era. Yes he was successful, but his most successful heirs were those who were more honorable men.

Tiber Septim is a fine example of an evil emperor with good publicity. He is Emperor Palpatine.

The Empire is better off without deifying him.

Any Nord who speaks well of Tiber Septim or the god Talos that was apotheosized out of him either A) does not know the history of Tiber Septim (likely, given how illiterate societies at Skyrim’s level of development tend to be) or B) knows and either doesn’t care or actively thinks Tiber did nothing wrong.

The latter two should be squashed and ground into the dirt like the worms they are -- it’s the Tamrielic equivalent of the “Hitler did nothing wrong” crowd.

This guy is closer to Molag Bal or Mannimarco’s temperament than any of the Aedra. He does NOT deserve to be counted among them.

The killer part? 

Most likely, Tiber Septim probably wasn’t even a Nord or Atmoran.

There’s a very good chance that the account that he was born in the city state of Alcaire in High Rock is accurate, which would have in all likelihood made him a Breton.

The Nords of the Fourth Era insist on worshipping something that is utterly false on every level and they define themselves by it.

Not even Mephala could have concocted such an ironic situation.
