In the figure above, point O is the center of the circle. If x = 40, what is the value of y? From the blue book, page 713 #5
The triangle in that figure must be isosceles, because two of its sides are radii of the same circle. In an isosceles triangle, the angles across from the congruent sides are also congruent.
Therefore, the angles in the triangle are x, y, and y degrees. If x = 40, then y must be 70 to make the whole triangle add to 180 degrees.
What is the main point of the passage on page 710 bb? Thanks
Not sure I’d say this one has an easy-to-put-into-a-few-words main point. It’s not an argument, so that’s OK. It’s a meditation on the nature of choreography. I guess you could say the main point is for the author to tell you what he or she thinks about choreography… :/
If 4(x+y)(x-y)=40 and x-y=20, what is the value of x+y? I tried plugging it in but it didn't work for me (BB test 6 section 4 #14)
Plugging in won’t work here–avoid plugging in when you have multiple variables and multiple equations. Instead, substitute! You know x – y = 20, so put that into the first expression:
4(x + y)(x – y) = 404(x + y)(20) = 4080(x + y) = 40x + y = 0.5
If the areas of two regions are equal and the sum of the areas of the region is 5, what is the average (arithmetic mean) of the areas of the two regions? A) 0 B) 5/2 C) 5/4 D) 5 E) 10 (BB test 6 section 4 #3)
The areas are equal, and they add up to 5. That means each one is 2.5. What’s the average of 2.5 and 2.5? You got it–2.5!
BB question 7 on page 719! Thank you a bunch!
It’s redundant/awkward to say “whether” and “or did not,” so eliminate both (A) and (B). (C) and (E) are syntactically incorrect, and probably not very tempting. (D) is correct.
