The pale gray morning light was just enough to make Janie wearily blink her eyes open. Her sitting room was chilly, and the curtains were parted open wide enough to flood the room with the soft light. Slowly, she closed her eyes again and leaned her head against Rudy. The two had fell asleep watching a movie again, only, for some reason she couldn’t recall they both decided to curl up on her favourite armchair instead of her couch. The crick in her neck protested loudly, but for some reason, she didn’t mind the discomfort.Warmth seeped through Rudy’s thin cotton t-shirt and made the room feel a little less cold. Unwilling to fully wake up, Janie shifted slightly, turning more towards Rudy, and curled up against him. Her actions caused him to stir, and slowly he began to awaken as well. Janie’s head was pushed forward as Rudy arched out his back, obviously stiff from the uncomfortable resting place. “..Did I wake you?” She eventually murmured, opening her eyes again and looking up at him. “Mm… maybe a little.” He confessed as he yawned loudly, stretching out his arms. When he brought the back down, he wrapped one around Janie’s shoulders, adding to the warmth. “My bad. I’ll try to be more thorough next time.” She teased sleepily. Rudy let out a small laugh as he buried his face in Janie’s shoulder, a motion of affection that Janie had started to grow fond of from the man. The room was still gray, Janie might’ve guessed the sun had been rising, but the bland colors made her think that the day was overcast. Everything around her was all in the hues of gray, even Rudy. It filled her chest with a deep longing, to know how much she was missing… Rudy must have picked up on her change in mood, because he drew back slightly to look her in the eyes. “You know, I think this might be the best morning I’ve had in a while…” He said softly, smiling at her. “And what makes you say that?” Janie asked in reply, a tiny grin slowly creeping on her face. “Because it kind of reminded me.. you know? That there are good things sometimes. Its not all bad stuff. Days like these are small, and I guess not that big in the long run but…” He paused as he interlaced one of his hands with Janie’s. “I can’t think of a better way to wake up.”
The grays seemed a little less gloomy after that, and the room felt a lot less chilly. …Maybe these kinds of days weren’t so memorable, or so great, but… She didn’t mind as much now.
