Ok but I am so mad right now because we were all lied to about tetrachromacy. It’s not just “oh they’re better at telling the difference between very similar colors” NO. Tetrachromats literally see hues that we can’t, like human peacock mantis shrimp. Think about it. Normal people’s eyes only have the cones to see red, green, and blue light, and make up the other colors by combining those ones together. (Colorblind people have one or more of those cones missing, which is why they have trouble distinguishing between different colors.)
Tetrachromats can see “yellow” light. But the “yellow” they see isn’t actually the yellow you’re seeing on your screen right now, because the “yellow” we see is just a mixture of red and green, whereas they actually have a separate cone in their eyes dedicated to seeing the type of light us pathetic mortals think is yellow.
Imagine if someone tried to convince that magenta and green are the same color because green is between red and blue on the color spectrum and you can get magenta by mixing red and blue light. That’s what you probably look like to a tetrachromat when you act like yellow and yellow are the same colors.
Is your mind blown? Well, I’m about to blow it even more. Imagine all the new colors tetrachromats can make by mixing the yellow they see with red, green, and blue.
(Oh, and if you found out you were a tetrachromat because of a test you took on the internet, no you didn’t. Computer monitors can only display red, green, and blue light.)
