“You’re a Christmas present.”
Ok so someone I follow on twitter tweeted something interesting and I think it worth to be shared. I don’t know if he has a Tumblr account but if you recognize the name or else make me know so I’ll credit him properly. (here’s his twitter account).

What I answered to them is that I remember in TRF Mycroft sells Sherlock to Jim, so even if it was not for Christmas I think this is very similar. So the three siblings have been “offered” to someone else ,can we call that a coincidence? Not really imo, but the question is: what does it mean? I have to admit I don’t have a clear answer, maybe you’ll have an idea? :) Maybe reminding the intents can be useful, so: - Mycroft gives info about Sherlock to Jim (basically gives his brother entirely), to make an arrangement with him. So to speak to tear information out of him. - Sherlock gives Mycroft to CAM apparently to save Mary from the info he has on her - but beyond that he saves John and their daughter because it would have also affected them. Basically he does that to extract information out of CAM. - Mycroft gives Jim to Euros because she demands treats in exchange of help she gives to predict events like terrorist attacks and such (still makes me laugh but meh), so to speak in exchange of information. (Also: in a way I think Mycroft also sold Euros to Jim, because that’s definitely something he can use in his vendetta against Sherlock, and the imagery of the meeting scene suggest they both are equal and find satisfaction in this). In all three occurrences the reason is: to obtain information. And I think that somehow there is also here the expression of Mycroft and Sherlock trying to protect people, even if Mycroft’s motivations look a bit colder (only in appearance, as we know), because the nature of those informations can hurt people and especially people they’re close to (namely Sherlock, John, the kid, and even Mary).
I think it’s also interesting that Mind_Phallus mentions TFPb as something that takes place in someone’s head, Sherlock or John’s imagination, both make sense. If it’s Sherlock it can mean he re-enacts something he feels is normal in the two siblings dynamic so it comes quite naturally in his mind as a behaviour Mycroft would have with his sister. And it also is accurate if it’s in John’s mind because that’s something he witnessed twice so that makes sense to him for Mycroft to do that, and given how shocked he was by Mycroft’s move in TRF, it’s genuine that he’d imagine it as a cold-blooded transaction between Mycroft and Jim. So, to me, if TFPb is indeed a big dream, the fact this “offering” is there means it impacted the one who creates the dream. That said, even if there is no dream, which is possible though I don’t like that idea, this is still a pattern that can mean something. And also I think we can apply the “never 3 without a fourth” idea to this. Because of Culverton’s line, whenever we count three occurrences of something in the show, we are led to think there is a fourth occurrence we might expect, it happens here that there was three occurrences of either Sherlock or Mycroft giving people, unless I forgot one. So what could be the fourth occurrence of that if there is one? To respect symmetry, this may be Sherlock’s turn to “offer” someone to someone else to extract informations out of them (and thence to save someone else). But that’s a good idea only if there is not already other occurrences of someone being a present, and truth is I just quickly searched my memory and couldn’t remember something else resembling that, on the same explicit level.
