They Call Him The Love Man | Lucille & Peter
Lucille looked in her pocket mirror and sighed a little. She had no idea why she was trying so hard, but yet here she was, tucking a loose piece of hair in to the already neat up-do. Wearing a stripey blue shirt, and a floral pencil skirt, she waltzed into the cafe ordering a skinny latte and a slice of the heavenly sponge cake they did there. Plain yet delicious. A bit like herself in many ways. There were no wild sides, or skeletons in her closet. A couple of secrets, but nothing incredibly shameful. Lucille looked out of the window, after texting Peter letting him know she had arrived.
Lucille didn’t like spending a lot of time alone. It lead her to think. She was extremely excited to see Peter for a real catch up. Lucille couldn’t help but drift back to when they were children. Her chasing the brothers around the Hamptons with Em. Lucille laughed as she remembered her and her sister discussing the crush Lucille had on Peter, but at the time she was nine. Things were different now. They weren’t kids chasing, and Lucille didn’t discuss things of any kind with Em any more. Everyone had gotten serious, and Lucille sometimes longed for the days of running around again.
Lucille just wished her and Em could hold a conversation without a sly dig thrown in, or a snide comment about what either of them did. The days of even a civil conversation seemed quite far away. But right now Lucille just wanted to concentrate meeting with an old friend. Maybe even seeing if he wanted to go to the Fairchild ball together for old times sake. Besides no one had even shown interest in asking her to her own ball, well no one worth noting.
Just as Lucille was about to go through a list of names in her head, the cafe door opened and there he was. She couldn’t help going a bit heart eyed, and into a dream pose. Even though they were just friends, there was no denying he was more than attractive, and nine year old Lucille seemed to resurface in a small content and happy sigh.
