In chapter 52, there's a (beautiful) scan of Kanae playing violin alone. It only a wrong interpretation or he's doing a serenade under Shuu's window?

!!! I thought that he was playing the violin together with Shuu, but now that I look closer at it, it does seem that Kanae is under Shuu’s window as he plays on the piano in his room! Thanks for pointing that out!

Knowing that Kaneki was abused by his mom makes his entire story more heart breaking.

He was physically abused by his mom, rejected by his aunt, used as an experiment by a doctor after almost getting eaten by the first girl he asked on a date, turned into a ghoul, completely ostracized from his humanity (spare not killing humans), felt like he lost his only friend, tortured for days, and then it turns out he was only used as entertainment the entire time.

Now fast forward to :re where he's Haise and he's happily living a lie that he's in control when in reality he's not at all. He's still being used. He's being used to take out his old friends Nishio and Shuu, he's being used to teach the Qs, he's still being used as entertainment, but worst of all, he's still being used by Arima whom he considers a father figure.

Threatened by Arima, and physically hurt by Arima. He’s never once really had full control over any part of his life.

Arima took everything he once was, even him name. He says he's always being hit by people he likes and let's take a trip back to chapter 52 when he comes back from his flashback with Arima twitching, sweating, crying, and chanting that it's his eyes, his soul, his body and most importantly Kill Arima.

He's terrified of being hurt again by someone he considers a parent which causes him to kick Kanae's head off out of fear (he doesn't even realize he did it for a second). Kaneki didn't want to believe he was abused, and Haise didn't want to believe he was being used and that his life was a complete lie, but at the end of 53 he says he's done with dreaming and wishes Haise a good night. What if he accepted himself and what Kaneki had gone through and decided to stop living the lie that was his life as Haise?

Kaneki's salvation is death, Haise's is the same. Haise also wants control of himself, his body, his life... And possibly his own death (which would be salvation for both of them).

This is purely theory, but what if Haise finally let Kaneki take over because he wanted control over at least one segment of his life... How he dies.

Shuu never said that. Kanae said it to himself.

Misc. asks on TG:re 52, Arima, and Eto under cut. Sorry for taking so long, and for not replying in-depth... m(_ _)m

Anon 1: What do you think Haise's thoughts about Arima will be when he gets his memory back and he remembers what he did to Kaneki? :'D And do you think Arima, despite feeling guilt over manipulating his "child", feels some trepidation over the possibility that Haise will remember what happened at V14 and end up hating him? Arima is a lonely person, and I wonder what he would feel if one of the few people in the world who see him as a person rather than a god were to leave him. (Oh I made myself sad)

A lot of conflict, a lot of angst, PAIN D:

Anon 2: Somehow that sentence in which Arima reproached Haise on chapter 8 took a dark turn, I think he told him he shoul "get rid of the lag between the movements of his upper and lower halves".

Hmm, I’ve seen a few people comment on this and maybe I’m missing something really obvious, because I’m not seeing why the events in this chapter would have made it disturbing. Because it implies Arima’s training was very brutal? But yes, while I doubt that particular scene ever happened, it put a very dark picture to Arima and Haise’s relationship. (We already knew it from our own knowledge of V14, but having a visual image really brings it home.)

Anon 3: In ch.52, when Arima is holding his quinque to Haise's face, is he actually stabbing his eye? What's that dripping down his face? Also, in regards to the scene being a hallucination, do you think it's just a reflection of Kaneki's (not Haise's) perception of the situation?

No, he’s threatening him. And I think it’s blood dripping down Haise’s face, because he’s hallucinating his eyes were stabbed through again. I think that hallucination was a mix of both Kaneki and Haise’s perceptions, but the fear Haise felt was very real.

Anon 4: Hi! May I ask for your thoughts on Eto appearing in last chapter and her reasons to attack Haise? I believe Eto is not really interested in the Qs but Haise. Back at the Auction, she specifically sent Seidou to fight Haise, as Seidou himself confirmed when facing him, as if it were some sort of test. This was followed by Eto observing Haise and manipulating Kanae to hate him more and giving her power to attack and kill him. Now, she suddenly attacks. What does she want from him?

We were all thinking that Eto’s objective was the Quinx, but yes, the fact that she appeared in front of Haise is HUGE, and shows that she (as always) has a much larger plan in her head. Your guess is as good as mine, anon (-.-) I have no idea what is going on in Eto’s and Ishida-sensei’s mind.

Anon 5:That thing floating from Eto in chapter 52 seems to be around her face, that made me think... what if her bandages are made of her kagune too?

Anon 6: Is it me or does it look like Eto's kakuja look way bigger than it did in TG?

Anon 7: What do you think of the phrase: "Surely Eve ate that apple because she wanted to love a man yet you said that she wanted to be loved..."? I found it beautiful and meaningful.

On a purely aesthetic level (no biblical interpretations) I thought is was beautiful too. It’s a sentence that makes you stop and think. Kanae is bringing out his inner poet. 

Anon 8: I think its sad how actually Kaneki and Kanae just might understand each other. Both of them lost their family and had to be taken care by relatives, and there they felt more sad than ever. With kanae vying for shuu's attention and Kaneki with his aunty. Also both of them looked like they were manipulated by someone i.e Eto and Arima :(

TG/Tg:re is a tale of people with sad backgrounds... :( Even though so many similarities can be drawn to characters on opposite sides of the conflict, the fact that they still can’t understand each other adds to the tragedy and the twisted nature of the world.

In chapter 52 when kanae looked at the mirror, did s\he say "bony" or " bulky" in orginal text cause bony doesnt make sense, kanae isnt that thin ı think. and what did kanae mean when s/he said her/his father and mother both was tall?? Thanks for the blog by the way you help so much.

Kanae used the word 「ゴツゴツ」, which means the opposite of smooth. IS just decided to go with bony. I think the line was supposed to be taken to mean that he was unhappy at how unfeminine he looked, after years of strict training. And if your family is generally tall you have a good chance of being tall as well, which would be a plus for Kanae in passing off as a male. :)

Oh, and by the way - please don’t feel the need to tiptoe around what pronouns to use for Kanae when talking in this blog. I don’t attack people, and I don’t mind whether you use he or she or them. :) Personally I just use “he” since that’s what I’ve used up to now and none of the characters have changed the way they talk of him in-story. :)

By first, I wanna know whether the translation of the Sasaki's panel where he's talkin' about a bloodline has the same meaning or translation in jp.( I already knew what it's possible a misstranslation or some else) 2. For who is aimed that thought? Who's referring Sasaki there? I'll wait your answer soon! :)

Anon 2: Tammy, in the latest chapter when it says “bloodline” referencing that part of Dear Kafka, ive heard that was a mistranslation. Is that true? Bc the bloodline thing seemed rly out of place

Hello! :D I already answered the first part here - (x), and yes it’s a mistranslation. (Thank you for being so patient ;;)

Haise is remembering a passage that was in “The Black Goat’s Egg,” where an unknown character tells another character that their parents had failed to raise them. 

I’ve been thinking about this, and while Haise thinks of the quote when he sees Kanae, it could also apply to himself and Eto. He recognized Eto’s style in Kanae, but he specifically associated that particular passage with what he saw. He’s understood her so thoroughly through her words that he was able to see the despair and loneliness underneath, and I think that line summed up Eto’s feelings towards her own parents.

Of course, Kaneki’s parents failed him too. His father, for dying early and leaving his mother to raise him alone. His mother, for not prioritizing herself and her child and working herself to death. While Haise may not remember, that’s a part of his and Eto’s background they share. At the same time it’s one of the points where they diverge since Haise has matured away from the negative influences. It’s absolutely fantastic writing, to use that passage to both connect and contrast the two characters. :D I love that scene so so much, and it’s one of the reasons why I want to read “The Black Goat’s Egg.”

I think Haise just might pull a Keanu Reeves matrix slow mo, Arima's version doge with Eto's attack.

It’s off panel, so I have full expectations Haise managed to pull off the Arima dodge against Eto. :) If Ui could do it Haise can too!
