(got my content timelines wrong so back to writing I went) =

The notice had been simple.

Recover stolen cargo. Generous compensation upon return.

Rook had accepted before noon.

Three crates of tea. Two of silk. One marked only as fragile by a merchant who seemed far more interested in getting it back than explaining what was inside.

Following a trail of broken wagon wheels and careless footprints had led to an abandoned warehouse overlooking Limsa's lower docks.

He'd barely stepped inside before another voice echoed from deeper within.

"Please don't tell me..."

Rook rounded a stack of crates to find... A worn crimson hat that cast a shadow over striking amber eyes ringed in gold. A man. And by the looks of him, a capable one at that. Nearby, a small grass raptor nosed curiously at an overturned barrel, as if it also had come to inspect the crime scene.

Rook unfolded the notice in his hand with a quiet sigh.

How many copies were out there ? How many more would show up to the job before they were through?

His gaze drifted briefly to the raptor before returning to the man, the corner of his mouth lifting.

He tucked the contract back into his coat.

"As long as we're splittin' the pay..."

His smile grew just a fraction. "Two ways. Not three." He wasn't about to give up gil to a reptilian side kick.

= @twinfangs-and-tea thank you for this. I like companion pets so I wanted to toss in his raptor but don't know much about him so hopefully nothing too off kilter. o/ =

Heatwave Festival Day 1: Heatwave

"You overdid it," Concord chides, handing over the chilled cup to his companion, "And after all that fuss you made over me not being prepared for the heat. Didn't you grow up in a desert?"

Thallon just smiles gratefully up at him as he takes the beverage and the Viera's heart skips a beat. Warmer than the sun and twice as radiant... How this man manages to melt through his defenses so effortlessly will always remain a mystery to Concord, but he'd rather die than admit it aloud.

"I owe you one, 'Cord. How 'bout later I help you deal with that sunburn you're catching?"

"Sure, Lonnie. It's a deal."
