I didn’t get to write this on time for 4/13 but whatever. I’ll just write it now.
I’d like to say that, out of everything I’ve ever read or involved myself with, Homestuck ended up being one of the more fun and fascinating things so far.
I remember my sister introducing it to me around the summer of 2011. I wasn’t really sure what to think of it, and there was a time where I was *almost* tempted to skip to Act 5 because the trolls looked neat to me, but I’m glad I didn’t. I caught up to a page a little before Vriska died during the Doc Scratch part of Act 5 Act 2. It took me a few re-reads before [S] Cascade came out for me to understand the story a little more, but I continued anyway. Since then I’ve loved reading/watching/playing whatever update came out afterwards, and enjoyed seeing people discuss them. After that, I also enjoyed reading, listening, and watching all the fan content. Some where funny, some were sad, but overall they were a great experience. My sister and I even cosplayed as Terezi and Vriska at a convention once.
I’ve met many friends while I was reading Homestuck, and got to meet a wonderful irl friend at school because I was wearing a Space hoodie on campus one day. It was a really exciting moment for me because I hardly meet anyone through stuff like that in real life. And I’m so glad that it happened. It was really fun hanging out with them and talking to other friends online because of Homestuck. Sure, some of them might have drifted away from HS in the end, or outright hated it afterwards, but that doesn’t stop them from being my friends, even if we don’t talk much anymore they will still be my friends. I met so many incredible and funny people because of Homestuck, and I don’t regret any of it. I even got and made some nice Homestuck stuff pictured above (yes, even the Lil’ Cal. 8^Y,) though not pictured above is the aforementioned Space hoodie, a Doom hoodie, and a few other thingies.
As for what I think of [S] Act 7 and the end of Homestuck, I’m actually very content with the end as it is. Sure, there are some things that I wish would have been shown or explained, but that doesn’t make the ending bad at all. It was an amazing experience to see it all come to a close. Of course, I’m also looking forward to the potential Epilogue for the story, whatever it may be (even if it ends up being Hussie’s avatar dicking around and doing nothing important,) but for now, I’m just glad I got to stick around for this wild ride.
So I guess to summarize, I’m so glad I read Homestuck, I would still recommend it to anyone who’s willing enough to read through it, and I’d like to say thank you to Andrew Hussie, the amazing artists and musicians who contributed to the webcomic, and to the friends I met during this time.
