The Great thing about Tonhon Chonlatee
Can I just say I went quiet because I had some issues with Tonhon Chonlatee and I didn’t have a lot of energy to keep up with it. But one thing I absolutely love in this show is the moments where there’s a discussion about LGBTQ+ struggle and defence for right treatment . Many scenes showcase the seriousness of homophobia and the pain it causes to the community. I remember praising the scene when we see Ton’s struggle for the first time; the scene his father goes on the podium and makes fun of the two ladyboys and people laughed but it felt uncomfortable and painful. Those kind of scenes are so powerful in a show that is always full of jokes and more. This episode 8 in general we see conversations about Tons mindset, we see the gravity of the situation as he gets outed and it was taken seriously and talked about, we see the guilt Chon feels just for being in love with him and making him choose him, it sucks. We see more as well when two people proceed to beat up a couple and call them slurs and Ton defends them because he sees what attitudes like his father’s mindset and actions and his previously did, how it affected his friends and how it affected his love. He realised how much his words probably made them feel.
So yes TC needs work and has a lot of flaws but the discussions and the show cases of the seriousness of some issues is really done well. And it makes me grateful to see it not to mention the positive women and friendship support group. Even next week in the promo we see them standing up to Amp and others who are homophobic. Their dialogues and discussions being shown is impactful. It’s touching and it’s a great thing. Just wanted to say that
