So it's Father's Day in Sweden, and it gave me feels

Because as a single father household, Bard of course got a lot of love and appreciation from his kids, even as they all grew into adults

But it's a human thing, so neither Legolas nor Thranduil had ever heard of it once they joined the family.

But I can just imagine when Bard and Thran were still just courting, tiny Tilda handing Thranduil a little card with squiggly and messy Sindarin letters and a little drawing of the whole family together. "I made it myself! Princess has been teaching me to write in Simdarin, and he asked if he should write it down but I wanted to, so if the spelling and stuff is not very good then I'm sorry. But I got both Bain and Sigrid to sign it, though I did have to trick Sigrid into doing so, and I even drew a family pict- Ada why are you crying?"

May I bother you and ask what headcanons do you have about Bard and his family? 😌👀

Of course you can! :D I'm assuming you mean within the metal AU?

-The family start a little vegetable garden in the back. Both him and the kids are covered in dirt at the end of it and he doesn't even mind. He hasn't felt this happy and laughed this much in years. Bofur just makes everything fun. -Even though she's not his biological daughter, Sigrid is the one who takes after Bofur musically and even "borrows" one of his guitars which just becomes her's permanently. She goes through a rebellious punk phase which adds another layer of grey hair to Bard's temple but teenagers gonna teenager.

-Bard is stressed because of work and time constraints. Bofur is stressed because of his neurodivergence. They both help each other with their concerns and are less stressed as a result. Much snuggling is had every night.

-Bard is SUPER protective of Bofur. Like, to the extent where he'll be mean to whoever is hurtful towards him. Bofur is cheerful and always sees the best in people, so there's always going to be people who try to take advantage of that and Bard sees through it. You know how snarky Bard is in the films? Imagine that tenfold when someone is shitty to people he loves.

-Bofur secretly cries when Sigrid leaves home for college. She takes the guitar with her.

-That blonde guy at Whole Foods keeps hitting on Bard until he sees the Bowman kissing a scruffy, dorky metalhead outside of work one day and he's horrified and storms off in a huff because HE'S rich and clean cut and how dare Bard prefer short, hairy men with funny hats. He takes it as a *personal* insult. (this one I stole from @alienfuckeronmain).

-When Bard and Bofur are old and grey and creaky, and the kids have left home, they sit on the porch on Saturdays blasting Motorhead and Helloween and the neighbours hate them. They've become those "loud old men with no respect for anyone" but in actuality they're just both slightly deaf.

I was kinda curious of what the Bardlings name meant, so I looked it up, and they’re surprisingly fitting for the personalities I’ve given them. Enjoy or whatever, at this point I’m just doing stuff.

Sigrid- Victory, Wisdom, Beautiful

Sigrid is a Norse name, for those who didn’t know that. I’m Norse!

The term Victory is probs the least fitting of the three, but it still checks out. Sigrid is a warrior that fought in many battles.

Wisdom feels very her, as she is the most well read and the most logical out of her siblings, and is also a healer that takes some amount of smarts to preform.

Despite the light patches on her normally dark skin, Sigrid is quite beautiful and has had both men and women asking for her hand, but she’s never been interested.

Marina- Of the sea

(Sigrid’s middle name, according to moi)

Well, she did grow up near water. This is more Bain like than Sigrid, but still. She does enjoy though enjoy the sea like most people, and has no problem being on a boat.

Benjamin- Son of my right hand

(Bain’s real name, according to moi)

I mean I guess. I don’t know exactly what it means, but he was kind of a right hand to his da when Smaug attacked.

Benjamin is also a phrase “Benjamin of the family” to refer to the youngest in the family, which he is not, but still, he is babey so it does fit a little.

Bain- Bath, Bone, White, etc

Okay turns out this name has a ton of meanings depending on the country.

In northern English it either means bone, which refers to someone who’s tall or lean, or Welcoming/Friendly.

In English/French it means bath, which is very fitting for him cause he loves water.

In Scottish it is a nickname for a person with Fair Hair, the name meaning White or Fair, which is kinda cute. Plus Bain is blonde so yeah.

In Punjabi it means Buffalo.

Let’s just say that all of these, except for the buffalo one I have no idea what that was about, kinda fits him, which is amazing.

Lachlan- From the fjord-land

(Aka his middle name)

I mean I guess. He’s from the north where Fjords often are located, and they are water related.

Matilda- Might, Strength, Battle

The name that Tilda hates is the one that describes her the best.

How ironic.

Tilda has a lot of fighting spirit in her blood, so yeah, for it to literally be the meaning of her name is kinda cute.

Tilda- Strenght in battle

And I take that statement back, turns out the name she goes by is also quite fitting.

Though this only relates to battle strenght, it could mean many types of battles. She for example constantly battles with herself in her mind about her worth and what she shall do to prove it, so yeah, it all checks out.

Lucia- Light

(Aka her middle name)

Tilda is a bright individual, and I don’t mean that in the intelligent way because she is actually quite dumb. No, I mean she is a person who can light up the room.

She takes place, make herself heard, and often it’s in a positive way which is good. Sometimes it’s bad, but that’s just her screaming at some asshole.

Also she likes fire. Fire brings a light to a room. Boom.

Hobbit AU . . .

Au in which Bard’s three kids keep stumbling into storybook adventures. Every closet leads to a far away land in need of saving. Every bed has a monster under it. And no matter how long they are away, every portal always bring them right back as if they’d never been gone.

So when the dwarves crawl out of the privy, no one is really surprised. For the Bardlings, it’s just another Tuesday.

The dwarves are all a little unnerved when a pantry door starts to rattle, and the first thing Sigrid does is grab a frying pan. While Bain picks up a fireplace poker. They don’t know what the kids get up to in the pantry, but when they come out, the girls’ hair is disheveled, and Bain’s poker is bent.

Bard tells the dwarves that it’s best not to ask.

Fuck I just fucking realized what vibes Sigrid and Tilda give me

Because like, the two of them have always been sorta the heart and core of this little AU I have. Yeah, I focus more on Tilda cause she’s my favorite, but a lot of her actions derive from the upbringing she had with Sigrid, and the relationship the two have formed

So while watching a five hour video going over Wizards of Waverly Place, I know where I get their dynamic

Fucking these two

The constant squabble, the “Perfect by the rules one” and the “Fuck around and find out” one, the underlying love between the two that they just can’t address because neither wants to be seen as weak to the other, the fact that Justin sometimes can break the rules and be a little selfish and Alex just wants who help her family and have them be proud of her, despite the troublesome facade she puts up.

God I made them a Disney Channel sibling duo, didn’t I?

And yeah, I’d say those are my top recs. There was another Aralas one that I absolutely adored, where Aragorn was obsessed with Legolas and the ring used those feelings to manipulate the fuck out of him, but I couldn’t find it. Prank Wars

Bain: Everyone keeps telling me my prank where I put a red sock with the white laundry was the best, but...

Bain: I actually didn’t know what I was doing. I can’t see colours, or anything, I don’t know why they even let me do the laundry

Legolas: Out of retaliation to Ada’s vegan prank, I stuffed a thinly sliced sliver of tomatoe into the DVD player where the CD goes

Legolas: I have also obtained footage of a certain diva singing in the shower. He’s a lovely baritone

Tilda: Sigrid doesn’t know this yet, but I know how much she loves pineapple pizza so I replaced her lunch

Tilda: What have I replaced it with? I took off the pineapple and added peaches

Sigrid: This is by far the worst prank so far. This- This should be illegal!

Sigrid: Perfectly good lunch replaced by a slippery fruit!

Sigrid: Anyways, my prank was that I replaced all the lemons we have with limes and no one noticed
