May 12th is when our heroes arrive at Vortex. Giggles can be heard as everyone claims their own rooms and beds. The Crybaby's grandparents don't have enough rooms for everyone to have their own, but nobody finds trouble bunking together or taking couches for the summer. Once the newness wears off and night falls, The Wildcard suggests they go down to the beach and pitch a fire. The Nightingale jests that it's because The Wildcard is a pyromaniac, but they detest it. They get drinks, chairs, lighter fluid, and don't worry, The Worrywart grabbed snacks! One can only wonder what goes bump in the night in Vortex....

Is there a fandom consensus on daemons for Shane and Ilya? I would like to put forth that Ilyas daemon is a beautiful borzoi with a name from a Russian fairytale who drapes herself over Ilyas shoulders like a fancy stole whenever he skates and Shane's daemon is a largish bright green iridescent beetle with a tiny voice who mostly perches on Shane's chest but sits right above his ear inside his helmet during games and talk shit continuously right into his ear where no one else can hear.

Anyway what if Ilya did buy a historic mid century house in the suburbs. During one of the periods where he and Shane aren't talking Ilya is frustrated which he processes by getting very dissatisfied with his shitty soulless expensive apartment and decides he needs to get serious about finding somewhere to live. He looks at a bunch of fancy expensive new builds but they all feel cheap and ugly to him and eventually he ends up seeing this smallish somewhat run down beautiful impractical mid century house on a perfect isolated lot. And he immediately starts imagining Shane next to the fire pit, kissing Shane on the kitchen counter, watching the rain on the skylight with Shane. Maybe there's also some coincidence that convinces him he's meant to buy it. And so now he has this house he has no idea what to do with and ends up having to hire a contractor and gut the basement and replace the windows and oops the stupid flat roof leaks. And Ilya basically learns to be an adult through managing his beautiful but disastrous historic house. The whole time he's renovating it he keeps thinking what would Shane like what would make Shane comfy and then he has elaborate fantasies of Shane complimenting his choices in wood stains and other insanely embarrassing things. And then there's a crisis with his stupid beautiful house and he ends up texting Mr real estate himself for help. And Shane is like wtf when and why did you buy a disaster house and he doesn't have the guts to ask why ilya is texting his former fuckbuddy real estate questions in a foreign country after ghosting him for however long. But he is curious enough to get himself invited to Ilya's beautiful difficult literal labor of love house the next time he's in Boston. And it's a huge disaster, half rebuilt, ugly, and Ilya lets him see it anyway and as predicted Shane tells him how it has good bones, but it's so impractical and surely he would be happier with an easy straightforward woman new build. And Ilya gets to tell him maybe, but he knew Shane would think the house was beautiful.
