Some random UK knowledge that you might find interesting as phouse context
1) the UK has a very significant construction worker shortage for various reasons (Brexit, a general lean towards tertiary industry, COVID, etc.) so a lot of people aren't inclined to be picky unless they have family/friends in the industry who can get them a better deal
2) there's also a big push towards building new housing (housing shortage etc. especially in London) the results of which which are far too complicated to explain in a tumblr ask. But basically the two facts above combine to result in a lot of new builds being quite badly constructed/rushed and then getting fixed later (there are laws like DLP/snagging that I assume a lot of the work done on the phouse comes under).
DNP are unlucky but if I heard any of those stories from someone in a new build I would be sympathetic but not surprised. Though they do seem to add some general chaos to the mix.
Btw love your blog!
Thanks for that info. That's awful, and kinda scary, I hope something gets fixed soon, but also, I feel like bad builders who don't do their jobs well is not bad builders who don't do their job well AND try to sell drugs to the people who's homes they are building.
And I'm so glad you like my blog!
Kaylon : Admit it, you all think kaylon are just machines built by the builders to make their lives easier.
Builder: Well, aren't they?
Kaylon: I've never made anyone's life easier and you know it!
One thought that keeps popping up into my head is that I’m wondering about the builders… these men are consistently in Dan and Phil’s most private lives, like they’ve not only built their home but are consistently repairing it, meaning they are in the Phouse, for days on end, while Dip and Pip are there. Now I assume these are mostly chronically offline people, but can you imagine if one of them knows who dnp are?! I mean I assume they probably signed nda’s but like imagine knowing who Dan and Phil are and having insanely private information about them that you can just… never share - or don’t even care about because you don’t know who they are!!
Can't believe the one single character i actually headcanon as trans is a mouse from a book about animals killing each other with guns.
[ID: a digital drawing of The Captain from The Builders. He's a brown mouse wearing a wide brimmed head, a red cape and a gun holster.
His right eye is milky white with a scar running through it. /End ID]
John Cleese, Ballard Berkeley, and Andrew Sachs in Fawlty Towers (1975) The Builders
S1E2
Over his wife's objections, Basil hires his usual firm of incompetents (O'Reilly's) to do some carpentry work in the hotel lobby. With both Basil and Sybil out for the afternoon, they leave Polly in charge. She decides to have a nap, leaving the English-challenged Manuel in charge. When Basil returns, he finds a solid wall where once stood doors to the dining room and still no door to the kitchen per his work order. Sybil takes an I-told-you-so attitude and insists he hire a qualified builder to fix the mess, but Basil decides to get O'Reilly back to right the wrong, but he still makes a mess of it as well.
*John Cleese himself named this as "the least good" of the episodes that were filmed, owing to a general lack of laughter in the studio on recording day. He recalls that members of the Icelandic Broadcasting Corporation were visiting the studio that day and many of them were in the front row seats, apparently not entirely amused.
