Sometimes he could pretend that everything was normal. Could ignore the scar on his arm, the fences surrounding the cities, frequent health check ups. But... sometimes, when the scent of blood was too strong and he could feel warm skin under his gloves hands... he could feel his nurses look at him full of worry. Hear the whispers of the security guards Keep an eye on Doktor Minyard in case he goes zombie again. Nothing ever happened. He hadnt spent much time as a zombie, in fact the time he had the red stamp cured on his pass had now been longer than the time he spent... sick. Sick, that was what the world called it.

Zombie, that was what the many one star reviews on his hospital called it. The fact that he was even allowed to finish his studies, he was the first cured to ever work as a doctor... and it seemed he would be the last.

The world was back to normal, but not quite.

The only reason why he could practice as a doctor: his brother. Cured like him, and a star when the world needed to pretend everything was normal by playing some Exy. He glanced at his arm, the teeth marks on there were similar to his... memories came rushing back and he closed his eyes. He never wanted to see his brother like that again! At least he was lucky now, with his favourite, also cured, auburn haired idiot. A wonder they all made it out alive.

With a shaking breath he opened his door, locked it behind him before he opened one lock after the other on his cellar door.

"Hey, Kev." he called out softly, and what other might call a monster looked at him. But to to him, not to the cured. Some where resistant but they never attacked the cured. Birds of a feather and all that.

"I think we can continue with this new cure, what do you think?" he blinked away tears. Someday it would work.

Since it’s Halloween month, I wanna give a shoutout to a project that @snailontheslope​ and I made last year. We watched and reviewed 13 Irish movies in various subgenres of horror, and the end result is a fully illustrated zine available on a pay-what-you-want basis on Gumroad (link in source).
