The Dargon

“Admiral Edgethow to the bridge. There is an unknown disturbance off of the starboard bow.”

A minute later Beo is back on the bridge of the Geat where he belongs, once in the captain’s chair. He gets an update from his first officer, Commander Wiglaf Biix: “Sir, whatever it is, it’s big, at least 5 times our size, and it’s headed right towards us.”

“Red alert shields up,” orders Beo in reply.

“Unknown ship decloaking right in front of us, sir,” comes from the ensign at the con.

The ship is immense, taking up all of the view screen. The plating is almost as dark as the space beside it, and is most unusual: the plating almost looks like massive dragon scales. The bridge is a glowing green dot staring at the Geat like one terrifying eye.

Beo hails the unknown ship: ‘This is Admiral Edgethow of the USS Geat. You have entered Federation space. Please identify yourself or leave.”

A heavily distorted response comes back a few seconds later: “We are the Dargon, and we shall not leave. Rather, you shall.”

The comm goes silent. The bridge sits in silence for a second, everyone processing what they just heard. then pfeow Pfeow PFEOW! The ship shakes with the impact of phaser fire

Everyone snaps into action. “Arm phasers!” shouts Beo. “Fire at will!” Pew Pew Pew

pfeow Pfeow PFEOW The Geat is hit again, hard. Warnings blare from systems haywire. The Geat can’t stand much more of this

“Arm torpedoes! Fire at will!” pffftchEWW pffftchEWW pffftchEWW

“Captain, their shields are still at full strength! Nothing we throw at them can make a difference!”

“We’ll see about that. Ensign Craeli, get down to engineering. I have a plan and I need Commander Qhor'zai’s help.”

Two volleys of shots later, Ensign Craeli is back with bad news. “Commander Qhor’zai says the shuttles were damaged. The only way for the plan to work is if someone flies the shuttle. It’s a suicide mission, the transporter’s down.”

Before Beo can say anything, Commander Biix pipes up “I’ll do it.”

“No,” declares Beo. “I’ll do it. I’ve lived a good life, and my last wish has come true. Commander Wiglaf Biix, you have your whole life ahead of you. Please enjoy it”

With that, Beo sprints off to the shuttle bay leaving Wiglaf in charge of the bridge.

pfeow Pfeow PFEOW

Beo is thrown into a wall, he’s nearly thrown to the ground he barely catches himself on a broken piece of scaffolding.

Now his hand is bleeding, but it doesn’t matter. He wipes the blood off on his uniform, barely noticeable on the red fabric. He has to keep going.

He has to save the Geat.

“Captain Biix, I have a last request to make of you. Would you please tell my husband what happened, and how I died? Tell him that I love him, always and forever. Tell them I want them to live on, to enjoy the rest of their life. Tell him I’ll see him in the next life”

“Of course, sir. And, uh Captain Biix sir?”

“Yes, you’re the captain of the USS Geat now. Field promotion, plus a formal recommendation to Starfleet Command. I can’t think of anyone I would trust more with this ship. Take good care of her, Captain, she’s a good ship. Goodbye.”

The shuttle impacts sending shockwaves rippling through the Geat

“Goodbye, sir.”

The Dargon is gone, just floating fragments, no life signs to be found. Maybe there never were any.

Admiral Beo Edgethow is gone, his shuttle destroyed, his body vaporized. He died saving his ship and his crew.
