Consider these AUs

Luigi's Mansion au where Dib goes to a haunted mansion he won in a contest he never entered. He meets Zim there and Zim gives him the poltergust 3000.

Space Cop au were Zim is a space cop and is after a fugitive that is hiding as a ghost in Earth and Dib had to help him catch the bad guy.

Sweet Smeets au (@sleepyeule I'm looking at you) where Zim is a smeetery worker. The Tallest come to the smeetery to congratulate the best worker because he has the most successful smeet output, meaning they don't die easily and are rather successful in the empire. That worker is Zim. The Tallest invest in making a little smeetery on the Massive to make elite Irkens and take Zim on to take care of them. The Tallest end up falling for Zim and want to have a family with him.

Also consider this cute idea of Irkens over reacting to play fighting with smeets to encourage their confidence.
