Stranger Things 4 Chapter Six: The Dive | 4.06
Nightwing #140 (DC, July 2026) cover by Jorge Fornés
Nancy getting so geeked when Robin called them friends because she’s her first friend since Barb
I think about the aftermath of the final battle in stranger things SEASON 4 so often. And no, not the epilogue, but the off-screen bit right after the party lost the battle. Can you imagine the absolute horror and hopelessness that the characters were feeling?
Mike and Will having to beg Jane to 'wake up', when she didn’t want to leave Max and Lucas alone. Her then having to look her friends in the eyes as she tells them what happened to Max.
Dustin holding Eddie's dead body as he silently waits all alone for the others to come back from the Creel house. Nancy, Robin, and Steve didn't even know that Eddie died until they finally found Dustin.
Dustin not wanting to leave Eddie, so Steve stays with him a little while longer in the Upside Down and tells Nancy and Robin to go back to Hawkins. Steve helps Dustin bury Eddie's body, forever left in the UD.
Nancy having to deal with the fact that she may have lost two of her friends that night, because she assumes that Max is dead as well. Robin comforting her and hugging her as she crumbles completely, her guilt over Barb, Fred, and now Eddie and Max, haunting her.
When Nancy and Robin make it to the Creel house, they see Erica and Lucas huddled together, as Lucas holds Max close. Erica, relieved that they are safe, runs to hug Robin.
Nancy goes to Lucas. He tells her how Max is alive, by some miracle. He tells her how he heard her bones snap. How he thought everything was over. He tells her how their plan went to shit because Jason and Andy found them. He tells her how he fought back against Jason. When Nancy asks where Jason is, Lucas just looks to the side, in the centre of the attic where it split in two. Jason lies there in two pieces. When Robin sees the scene, she throws up.
Lucas pausing for one terrifying moment as he wonders where Dustin, Steve, and Eddie are. Did he lose one of his best friends as well? Nancy reassures him that Dustin and Steve are okay, but also has to tell him that Eddie didn't make it.
Imagine Mr. and Mrs. Sinclair finding their children looking shell-shocked, beaten, and bruised. All their initial intention to scold them after running away from the police drains out of them. What happened to their babies?
Imagine, after the Cali crew returns to Hawkins, Jane admitting to Lucas that she is the one who saved Max's life. Lucas breaking down, thanking her, and hugging her tightly, as they both sob. Because how did he ever believe that Jane was the monster when she quite literally breathed life into those she loved?
Why was their trauma so overlooked? They were literal teens who felt responsible for the fate of their entire town, and they weren't even thanked.
