Goodbye Jane Ives, we hardly knew you
All we need to end centuries of beef was a 3rd place playoff in the World Cup
It’s so funny that this is the least beef France and England have ever had
Well that’s my patriotism done till 2028 it’s been fun
The English team when they’re playing for 3rd place instead of 1st
Show!Louis and Book!Lestat would be match made in the funniest and deepest part of hell…just two crazy bitches telling eachother exactly
The Testaments S01E09 "Marat Sade"
daisy trying to be there for becka and let her know her feelings are perfectly normal in that godforsaken country that brands gay women as gender traitors 😭
Lydia saying “I don’t know what Agnes wants” while she holds a picture of Becka is crazy work
she then says “not yet” so maybe some beckagnes foreshadowing…
"Shunammite said Daisy was dangerous. She was right, of course. She said you should never trust a Pearl Girl. But that's exactly what I did." - Agnes, 1x01
"She's one of the bravest people I've ever met. She's beautiful and kind. She thinks she's funny, but she's not so much, actually. She's just a really good person. She's the one that we all want to be like, you know?" - Daisy, 1x10
thinking about how perceptive agnes was here. it made me think of that scene from before coming to gilead when daisy at first dismisses the gilead girls as being stupid, and she had to be warned not to underestimate their intelligence. we see that here. i really love that throughout the show we got to see girls and women in these religiously oppressive places be humanized in a way. even daisy’s comment in the scene where she went to agnes’ room about them not needing personalities (though true, they don’t need personalities since they’re just functionally there to be married off and make babies) did not change the fact that indeed these girls still do have them. we see that later when daisy describes the girls to june, but we also see it throughout the show through their little quips and interactions with each other. they may be deeply indoctrinated but that does not mean they’re any less intelligent and capable humans with their own individual personalities and desires. we also see daisy grow a lot too as she goes from seeing them as silly little girls who cant read and write to seeing their full power and potential in that last letter she wrote to june.
The Testaments S01E08 Broken
I do think it’s funny how Agnes sees Garth as like this cool confident older boy and then you cut to an interaction between him and Daisy and he’s just non stop fumbling socially, joke hit rate is at -2, doesn’t know what a tampon is, about to start angry crying and eating cigarettes from stress
JUDE BELLINGHAM YOU BEAUTY
i really like that the testaments didn't make hannah a carbon copy of her mom, but instead made her just similar enough to be like. yeah! that's june's daughter! because while hannah might not be as impulsive or as angry as june, she has her mother's kind-hearted nature and her instinct to protect those who can't protect themselves. and those were always the best parts of june's character. and props to chase infiniti because hannah also has a lot of june's mannerisms.
Imagine you realise being gay is an option because you kiss your best friend who is getting married to your crush who might only be your crush because every other man you know is a chopped geriatric and then a transfer student tells you your mother is Osama Bin Laden
I love the way the testaments highlights who June thinks she needs to be vs who she is through her relationship with Daisy. Daisy is also how we meet June in the testaments, saving a teenage girl, empathising with her and forging a connection with her. Daisy very quickly becomes someone important to June.
June has tried to form a pragmatic, sometimes cruel persona, attempting to forgo emotional decisions for the greater good. But she thrives on connection, it’s been a mainstay of her characterisation since the first season of the handmaids tale. What made June come back to herself initially was human connection, principally with Emily, Nick and the other handmaids but the Waterford’s to a degree.
In the scene at the dock in the last episode of the season, Junes public persona is deconstructed. It begins with her attempting to make an emotional decision in favour of Daisy’s safety. She tries to justify it by saying that she’s become a liability, but the more Daisy argues, she admits that she is scared to loose another person. When Daisy advocates for the girls, not just for their rights, but for their inherit value and authentic experiences, it breaks down Junes persona, who she’s shaped herself to be, and gets at her core. Winning doesn’t have to be at the expense of the kindness and empathy that make up who June Osborne is.
