Sylvaneth Triumphant

Per my friend’s @happyloudmers advice I got the new Sylvaneth Battletome and I’m delighted that as much as 40k has failed to let Yvraine do anything, Alarielle honestly kicks ass.

No faction of Order has been as successful in the lore as the Sylvaneth, it is noted that she is not only fighting back against Chaos but that they are on the backfoot against her, that her Sylvaneth have swelled to numbers not seen since the Age of Myth, there is no faction of Order currently as successful in retaking its realm as Alarielle and the Sylvaneth and I honestly am glad that Games Workshop finally has a powerful female character who isn’t just a team medic or dies to make things dramatic ala Yvraine and Celestine.

Some interesting new lore: Kurnoth is 100% confirmed as Kurnous now, being described as a Hunter god who survived the fall of the World That was. He’s also confirmed as dead, killed during a battle against Chaos Forces, so that explains why he never appears despite being so supposedly important to Alarielle.

well i have to be precious for this first one and say my sweet neurotic darling angel babies, Pyjak, Penny, and Deku. they are all three of them crested geckos and i love them all so much and oh they are all so wacky in the head, so very wacky in the head you guys.

chahoua geckos. oh you guys. you guys, have you ever heard of chahouas? they grow nearly a foot long and they have fully prehensile tails and are more sedate in temperament than cresties and they are a lovely green color and they make lovely pets and also THEY GO FOR $250 FOR AN UNSEXED JUVENILE AND I DIE, EVERY SINGLE DAY OF MY LIFE I DIE

madagascar giant day geckos. day geckos are skittery and don’t make super good pets, but LOOK AT THIS GREEN FRIEND. LOOK AT THIS SWEET SAUSAGE. LUV THAT BEAUTIFUL SAUSAGE.

standing’s day gecko. again, not particularly sedate or good for snuggly pet-hood, but the juveniles have this beautiful blue coloration, and also they have this absolutely ADORABLE defensive behavior where they slowly wiggle their tail at the suspected predator and i know it is stressful for them and i do not wish for them to have to perform the behavior but i saw it happen once in person and oh my god, the things my poor little heart did on that day, you would not believe me if i told you, dear reader.

sarasinorum geckos, which to be fair i’ve had not much experience with, but the one experience i DID have was with a very calm and chunky one at a reptile expo who sat very happily and quietly on my hand for like 10 minutes. he was a nice little man and i hope he’s doing well wherever he is right now.

003 for the asking: Galadriel or Feanor, as you wish?

Fëanor:

How I feel about this character: I feel the same way about Fëanor in the Silmarillion and I feel about Let It Go in Frozen - you know it’s going to be a disaster, but it’s still the best song in the movie. 

All the people I ship romantically with this character: There are contexts in which I like Fëanor/Nerdanel and contexts in which I don’t. There is pretty much no version of Fëanor/Fingolfin that I haven’t loved. I’ve seen some Fëanor/Melkor that was really well written but I’m not sure how I feel about it in general.

My non-romantic OTP for this character: Fëanor & his sons. 

My unpopular opinion about this character: He made shockingly horrible decisions, but the fundamental beliefs that led him to make them were correct. 

One thing I wish had happened: I wish the narrative had extended him half a hand of sympathy. (On an in-universe level I understand why it didn’t, but Fëanor-as-tragic-hero is just so much more interesting to me than Fëanor-as-villain.) 

My OTP: I’m going with Fëanor/Fingolfin.

My OT3: Fëanor/politics/trauma

Galadriel:

How I feel about this character: I’m in awe but slightly terrified. 

All the people I ship romantically with this character: Celeborn and Aredhel. 

My non-romantic OTP for this character: I really want to see an exploration of the relationship between Galadriel and Fëanor. 

My unpopular opinion about this character: If you met her in real life, she would be just as unsettling as she is beautiful. (Is this unpopular? I can’t tell.) 

One thing I wish had happened: I wish Tolkien had kept her flawed, dangerous, reckless personality and kept her actual arc instead of making her progressively more pure as time went on. 

My OTP: Galadriel/Celeborn.

My OT3: I don’t actually have one.
